disc drive fubar?

NEC 3550 in a computer I built a month ago. It reads CD's fine. Initially, I think it wrote CDs fine also. Now I try to put a blank CD in, it pops up this error message.
i have no idea what this means or how to approach the problem. I deleted the disc drive from the device manager, rebooted, and allowed windows to reinstall it but to no avail. What to do?

System Specs:
A8N-E
3000+ OC'd to 2.37
Gig OCZ Plat Rev 2
Windows XP Pro 32bit
 
well, it would be nice to get someone's input on this, since i'm going back to school in 7 days and my family will not be happy when they can't burn CD's.

Try burning a disc in Nero or some other app?
