Disappointed with my Koolance PC2-601

I just setup my new watercooling case. And let me just state with my Zalman and reading temps through CoreCenter I was getting between 34-37C idle temp and between 44-48C load temps.

I set this case up thinking I should see drastic drop in load temps and significant drops in idle temps. however, this is nowhere near the case and the idle is actually between 37C-38C and load is around 48-51C.

It appears I did not move at all in temps or stayed the same approx. My question is....what gives? Did I screw up? Did I put the AS5 on wrong?

Also, is the temperature sensor from koolance even close to being accurate??

Need more info...

What cooler are you using? What else do you have hooked up to the loop? Do the fans suck air from inside the case? What mb and cpu are you running? Any case fans in operation?

The temperature probe IS NOT accurate relative to the CPU core temp. This is because it sits away from the die and is only reading the combined water and cpu temperature. It is there only as a relative indicator, and the electronics auto shut down the system once it goes to about 120*F IIRC. Many people have reported that it is off about 7-12*F from the core temps.

No case fans YET. I am using the 300G CPU waterblock, and that is the only blockin the loop. Have not done theGPU or northbridge yet.

This is a (90nm) 3500+ A64 OC'd to 2.6Ghz on a MSI Neo2 mobo.I heard this mobo temp sensor is off??

I wonder if it is possible to change the waterpump and reservoir in the case??? Hmmmmm

BTW, you have to have some case fans to move cool fresh air into the case as the other components get hot! This is especially true if you are exausting case air through your radiator.

Exactly you should see a drop when you are moving some fresh air in the case. Probably wont be a huge decrease but you should see something.

You probably didn't do anything wrong, the integrated Koolance cases are actually kind of poor cooling choices.

Well I reapplied the AS5 and it didn't help much if any. I am still idling at 36-38C. What a bunch of crap!

Can anyonre recommend a clean watercooling setup to me besides this koolance case?

another thing is that those things arent geared towards performance.

If you are looking for something that will be quiet then thats it and its pretty much designed for the midline user who are happy with not overclocking

Nope...it was the right link. The link I posted was for a MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum SLI mb review in which they used a Koolance EXOS I to OC the hell out of

The EXOS is ok, it is decent performance given its ease of use, however it still cant hold a candle to a decent DIY system.

Also that review is decieving, it is more of a testament to the board than to the cooling. That high FSB is attained with a multiplier of 6...meaning that the AMD 4000+ was only running at 2.2GHz....slower than normal. That overclocking was done to test the board, not the cooling, hence the processor was never really stressed all that much, and therefore less strain went on the cooling.

Why is it when a review is done that shows a good OC on a "bigger is better" system everything is copasetic, but when a review is done using a lowly Koolance EXOS it ain't copasetic? Almost every single review done by [H]ardOCP over the last couple of years is done by using a Koolance EXOS to determine the OC ability of a mb or cpu. The EXOS system has performance similar to the Innovatek and Aqua Computer low flow systems and nobody wants to say bad things about them, so why is everyone bagging on Koolance? Admittedly their integrated solutions leave something to be desired, but their EXOS design is as good as apple pie ala mode :D Now if you are going to do dual processors with peltiers perhaps Koolance ain't the right place to be going to ;)

The exos would be a great system if it were 100$ cheaper. The price it is at now it cant compare. For 350$ you can get a good 12v pump, a storm G4 waterblock, a premodded double heatercore and the tubing. There is no way an exos can come close to that.

As for the overclock....please tell me how going from 2.4GHz to 2.2GHz is a great and massive overclock. The only thing that was pumped up was the FSB. Whether that was done with a Koolance or a DIY system I would still hold by the fact that the overclock was NOT in any way representative of the cooling. And I bet that they use the exos on all reviews because it is a much easier system to set up and take down over and over again.

The EXOS has many things going for it, it has respectable performance, and great accesibility. It is however overpriced for its performance. Some people however value things like the ease of use more than others.

Taken from review:
NOTE: For all Subsystem Testing, an AMD Athlon64 socket 939 4000+ CPU (12x200MHz) with a 200MHz FSB and Corsair XMS4000Pro memory running at 400MHz was used.

Ahhh....the one they did the review with was one of the EXOS I designs that goes for about $200. I just looked and it was 350 HT x 7 = 2.45Ghz in SLI mode! That's pumping two (2) GPU's at the same time. That's an awful lot of electrons moving around. Also keep in mind that we are talking the native FSB speed here. That translates into 700Mhz FSB (DDR = FSBx 2) I would take a higher FSB anyday of the week over a high clock speed. Now if I could get a high FSB and a high clock speed that would be super duper! But unfortunately we usually have to go high on the FSB and low on the multiplier.

Notice how they didn't benchmark either Top Nurse? Thats because the performance was probably worse. Higher FSB does not translate into higher performance, especially because to achieve that higher FSB you had to greatly loosen the memory timings. The EXOS really wasn't cooling a single overclocked component, and it never said in the review that it was cooling either of the GPUs, which I dont think it was.

I am just trying to point out that the review of the k8n nf4 is by no means equivalent to a review of the EXOS.

Agreed. But the Exos Aluminium review was quite stellar as well. My EXOS I is cooling a 2400+ OC to 2.3Ghz, cooling NB as well, as well as an OC'd Ati Radeon 9800 Pro. I'm also setting up now a 3500+ Winchester with Koolance blocks, who knows yet radiator, and an Eheim low flow pump (5 l/m). So great things are possible with a EXOS.

BTW, when OC the above mentioned system I wasn't limited by a cooling problem unless of course you compare what I did with peltiers or phase change cooling. This is OT but I saw a dual Opteron with peltiers running yesterday that was doing about -5*C at idle and about 20*C at full load with a burn program (ambient about 78*F) running. So if you plan on doing that kind of stuff any low flow system *might* not be the way to go. But since I don't think anyone has tried it we really don't know, do we? ;)

I was looking at the Dangerden watercooling kit they list on their website:

MAZE4 POWER Kit
# MAZE4 CPU Block with High Flow Chrome Fittings
# Black Ice Xtreme Radiator (black) with High Flow Chrome Fittings
# Eheim 1250 317 G/H 110V 60Hz Pump
# Sunon 120mm Fan
# Zerex Coolant 4oz Bottle
# Arctic Silver 5 - Thermal Compound
# 7 ft of 1/2" ID Clear Flex Tubing
# 1 DDBay Reservoir High Density Polyehylene
# 10 Hose Clamps
# One 1/2" T Fitting
# One 1/2" Y Fitting

I am thinking of selling this case and moving to this type of setup. But two things, they don't say what cases would be ideal or the best fit and what is the noise level to be expected??

My pc2-650 powers my 1800+ to a stable 2420 (220*11) at 1.75 in the bios (1.68-1.7 in windows) as well as my 9700pro to a mild 370/340. Nice and stable run's 24-7. And I only paid $140+shipping from zipzoomfly.
