Disadvantages of IIS

To install all the features of MS VS.NET I had to install microsoft IIS and its components.

Are there any disadvantages to doing so? Perhaps security flaws I should be aware of. Also, what ate the advantages?

Just be sure that you do a Windows update, also if you are not gonig to use IIS stop the service from starting. If you are giong to be using it be sure to keep it patched.
 
I doubt I'll really be using it, but I wanted to have the option to program for web services if I need to. If I'm not programing for web services then it won't be used.

I'll take your advise and keep it patched.
