yes I know its weird but I want to use only the Intel GPU. The performance of the intel 4600 is only about 20 percent slower than the 64 Bit GT740m The intel is running in 128 bit mode. thank you Hp for cheaping out.....The machine feels smoother running in Intel mode. Any easy way to do this? can I just uninstall the Nvidia drivers or disable them.

PS this is not my gaming laptop

I'm not sure about uninstalling the NVIDIA drivers will completely disable it, but you can force your system to use only the integrated video card.

Right click on desktop and select Nvidia Control Panel
On Nvidia CP, click on "Manage 3D setting"
Make sure to select Global setting tab, under "Preferred Graphics Processor" pull down menu, select Integrated Processor

Have you looked in the bios? Sometimes an option to disable a gpu or use a specific gpu is made available in there. I had a Dell laptop with dual Intel / Nvidia gpu's and I could specify in the bios if I wanted to use one of them all the time.

It doesn't make sense that the system would feel "smoother" in "intel mode". It should always be using the Intel GPU unless you launch a game or similar.

I have a slightly older laptop that has optimus, with an Ivy Bridge CPU and a Geforce 630m. It gives me a simple toggle to use whatever GPU i want to. Does yours not have that?

don't have the option in bios. Stuck with Optimus. This Machine I7 4700mq 16GB corsair ram 240 intel ssd with 64GB of cache raid 0 with Seagate 2TB boot drive, Intel 4600/nvidia 740gt 64Bit has never been quite right. Lately started getting Bsod when using Handbrake. All update in place win 8. A few months back had to reinstall from restore disks to get rid of windows resource corruption Dism did NOT work. I now just found out the corruption has happened again. fortunately I have a macrium image file to restore from. maybe that is the problem.....I will let you know I have four other laptops never have any of this bs.....
