Disabling (not using) hardware disk encryption

I want to buy a HGST 8 TB drive, but all of the models come with disk encryption.

I prefer no disk encryption. I have separate secure storage for those things.

Can the drive encryption be disabled so that it functions like a normal non-encrypting hard drive? Is there a jumper setting for that?

I don't want to risk a password being forgotten, and the drive may be used on multiple computers and shared with many people.

AFIK all hardware encryption must be set and is not default.

Also personally I would never use hardware encryption...or at least not alone. I don't trust hardware encryption given what is know and has been leaked.
