So I have a problem. I like to do a lot of video editing via Remote Desktop. It works great when I have a PC game running - because my Radeon HD 5870 runs at its max clock speeds. Unfortunately, when I don't, it downclocks to 157/300 MHz. This turns my fast video editing session via Remote Desktop to a laggy, obnoxious experience. I haven't found an option to force my card to stay at 850/1200 MHz when not playing a PC game.

Any suggestions? So far I've been having to keep a copy of Counter-Strike: Source open in the background to keep my GPU running at 850/1200 instead of 157/300. If only there was a way to get it to think Remote Desktop is a 3D program...

thats because RDT uses its own drivers. so when you RDT into your desktop it ignores the gfx card. try using logmein and see if that helps.

your other choice is to use afterburner and set your 2D clock profile to your 3D clock.

Have you tried going into the Catalyst Control Center -> ATI Overdrive tab -> Changing the "Power Control" setting to 20% and see if that helps with the clocks throttling. Good luck.
