Dirt 2 'feels' slow

I'm getting about 40 or so fps in the benchmark but it just feels/looks much slower than that. Is anyone experiencing the same?

Are you using SLI or CrossFire? Both can create microstuttering which will cause this exact issue - 40 FPS "feeling" a lot slower. IIRC, the only exception is the 4870 X2 / 5970 because they have shared memory, and possibly the GTX 295?

wow no way dirt 2 is smoking and ive only got the settings about midway so far. if u jack up the settings too high itll chug though.if the game "feels" slow....maybe u just can't drive...lol try playing with the settings. whats your setup so we can give you some advice.

i have to say that dirt 2 is one of the "fun-est" games ive played in a long time.i find it more addicting than shift. i just wish u could custom your car more.

well I have an i7 920 with a 5970 and I'm running in eyefinity. I do agree that the game is great fun! Its just that even though the benchmark is telling me I'm getting around 40 fps, it just feels a lot slower than that. All of my settings are on high, with post processing on medium. resolution is 5760 x 1080. 2x AA.

Do you have vsync enabled? If so, turn it off - game doesn't do triple buffering.

wow. i would have thought that you could have maxed the game out with your system. i guess dirt 2 is stronger than i thought. hmm i wonder if my planned 5870 crossfire will do the trick. im running medium with a few on low or high.i know i could tweak it to get a bit more eyecandy out of it but it looks good and runs fast. 5760x1200. sure doesnt feel slow to me.
what driver version are you using? are you sure both cores are running? and yea turing off vsync should help alot. there are also some settings you can tweak right off that will give you more fps without sacrificing visuals. crowd and water. turn them downa notch. crowd is a fps eater and really doesnt account for much of the gameplay. ive heard the water effects look like crap on high, so turning them down a notch wont hurt. other thing is run fraps while your playing. maybe there's something not working right. fraps will tell you what your fps is and youll be able to tell if its you or the fps thats lagging lol.

Might as well turn off AA if you're only using 2xAA.

I run Dirt 2 at 5760x1080 with a single 5870 and it's 100% smooth.

thanks for the replies guys. v-sync is indeed turned off. and disabling AA does help a bit. its just that 40 fps in other games seems to be a lot smoother than it is in dirt 2. i can't vouch for anyone else's performance so don't let mine discourage you.

and for the record i'm using the 9.12 HF drivers. i might give the 10.2 drivers a shot but haven't heard rave reviews about them either
