DiRT 2 delayed for dx11

DX revision can potentially make a massive difference, however it doesn't tend to early in its adaptation, so my guess is not a massive amount. It will definately look better than the console version the original looked really good and theres no way consoles can run that at anything close to the same settings as a decent PC.

dunno but i dont believe it otherwise there will be a massive difference between the console version ie dx9 as a posed to dx11 for the pc version and i cannot see them making DIRT 2 far better on the pc

Why can't they just release it now, and then release DX11 patch, like Techland did with Call of Juarez, when they released dx10 patch.

It will be interesting to see how well it turns out.
Its possible they are being compensated to push DX11.
Anyone remember the early DX10 games that didnt really need DX10 and ran like utter shite in DX10 mode?
Fingers crossed this isnt a repeat.

I still play Dirt, ace game.
Am looking forward to this.

So what will dx11 bring new to the table? Most games being released are still dx9 anyways?

go codemasters. i love them.

i will gladly wait for a dx11 version of DiRT 2.

same. ive beaten it twice already...

I feel like the only reason most games DX10 is an afterthought is due to the current gen of consoles being DX9. Since the xbox is so immensely popular no one has been really pumped about dx10 leaving it to kind of gather dust on the side lines. Sad, because it could have done a lot more then it ended up achieving... look at how dramatically it changed the original Call of Juarez only to be dropped for the second (even though it looks ace) DX11 I fear will get the same treatment, I miss the days when a DX update meant having to buy a new graphics card

Everyone SHOULD be applauding this effort. At least they are trying to push the envelope hear. TechLand didn't even bother to develop a DX 10 version of Call Of Jaurez Bound in Blood. However I admit the game goes look very good, not the greatest out there but good.

Yay another Direct X update, as if DX10 was so great:rolleyes:. Hopefully it wont be another case of looking new without actually being new.

More like they don't want any pc piracy to hurt the console sales so they'll hide behind the dx 11 enhancements.

because its a marketing tactic.. when the first DX11 cards come out.. they want to be the first ones to release a DX11 game.. thus driving sales.. its all marketing in the long run.. nothing else..

More like they don't want any pc piracy to hurt the console sales so they'll hide behind the dx 11 enhancements.

yes.. thats it.. lets pull the piracy card.. and blame every delay there is for a game on piracy instead of actually looking at it the way you should be...

man i should try that sometime when i have to deliver a system to some one... claim it was piracy's fault that it took me an extra 2 days..

Uhm, he has a valid point? Think of the percentage of money the PC port makes compares to the console version of any game. The consoles are how they make money, spending two weeks porting the game to run on windows is only worth-while if they're going to make more buyers than loose them, and with the way piracy of video games is today, I'm sure they would rather not lose buyers.

the problem is the media tries to make it out like piracy is killing everything.. and quite honestly its not.. sure more and more people are downloading the games.. but as long as you have a decent multi-player portion of a game.. those same people are going to end up buying it to play it online.. single player is only fun for so long.. that is also why more game developers are moving to a third party/separate online client like battlenet, microsoft live, and crap like that.. forces people to buy the games since there is no way to hack it to allow you to play online and most game crackers refuse to crack a game so it can be played online...

its the games with absolutely garbage multi-player that are suffering from the piracy problem..

hmm you hardly even need dx 9 to make the PC version look better. Just look at how much better GRID looks on PC versus the consoles :)

I was kind of expecting a couple of pages of:

" ATI payeded off Codemasters and now i can't play teh game. ATI is an evil company and I would never buy any of they're hardware and I never have since the MGA Wonder.  "

Wait, that only happens for nvidia and TWIMTBP games. :p

Heh and we all know who says that don't we ? :)

you obviously don't know much about dx10

You mean Direct X 9. So they have gotten to you too. Everyone excluding you knows that DX10 and 10.1 was a marketing ploy to sell hardware/software. It never used anything "new" to create its effects.

I'm disappointed this got delayed, though to be frank I would have much preferred they just released the PC F1 game rather than another DiRT. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy DiRT and the other Colin McRae games, but I just feel the pain more from not having a proper F1 game on the PC.

To me it almost sounds like an excuse to focus on the other console versions of the games first.

I'm seeing ALOT of PC releases delayed when it launches on the same day as the console version.

The Devs know that the PC version will be pirated 90% more than a console release *Cough* Demigod *Cough* (an example of piracy not pc/console release).

Whatever DX version they put out there, it will not catch on until Xbox and PS have a hardware to run it. DX9, 10 or 11 makes no difference to us PC users, we'll get crumbs and leftovers. After DX10 hype, I'll believe it when i see it...

Don't blame it on piracy. Most of the time the PC version gets delayed because Microsoft bribes or bullies them into delaying the PC version, because they want everyone to get the Xbox version.

^^ You don't have proof of that.

I also don't have proof that it's due to piracy either, but if you go on any torrent site and sort by seeders/leechers........

Jesus guys it's not a conspiracy and it's not unfathomable. It's called sound business. The facts are theres money in the PC ports of these games, usually. However, the reality is also that piracry does exist heavily on the PC side. That being said it's really a small investment to port it to PC and sorta crazy not to tap into the potential sales and pay no royality to MS or Sony. The problem is when they see zero day sales cut into console sales. There is a percenatge of people that , if pc and console launch side by side, will just pirate the pc version instead of buying the console version. Those numbers of people are enough to back them off alot of time from same day launches. It's simple economics, why castrate your sales? I woulnd't would you?
Soooooooooo, you add some supposed enhancements to the pc port with that extra dev time and that's supposed to tide the pc gamers over and make us feel better while we wait like schmucks. Ya it's not a conspiracy, it's the state of business affairs in thegaming industry thanks to all the fuckers who steal games.

Think about it.

Case in point, Dragon age. This game was PC exclusive orignally and was DONE as per Bioware last march and ready for release. They then decided to port it to the 360/ps3 and said because of that they were going to wait to release on all platforms in the fall. My question is, if the game was done and we know it was, why didn't they launch the pc version and then launch the console version when that was complete later in the fall? Simple really, if they had done that on a single plyer only game mind you, the piracry rates would have been through the roof. Not to mention so many people would have played the game that by the time it rolled out for the consoles it would have hurt some sales.

I was under the impression that they were coming out with a F1 game next year, so this should come as great news to all PC gamers! I would imagine that the console versions are finished and going through certification right now, so that means they should have PLENTY of time to port their PC engine to DX11 and do a really good job with it. Plus, they are probably going to use this same engine for the F1 game which is supposed to come out next year. Hopefully they get started on GRID 2...

Well I was gonna get another 280 and hold off on the DX11 cards but this news means I will probably jump on the GT300 when it comes out (or a month later when the price drops $300 :D).

They are indeed coming out with one next year, I just meant I'd rather they push DiRT 2 back to get the F1 game here sooner :) I'm just starved of F1!!!

Microsoft Explain PC Game Release Delays Microsoft tries to get PC versions delayed to sell more Xboxes. It's not exactly a well kept secret, or that hard to figure out. Some publishers have also said that to make Xbox games, they have to give Microsoft an exclusive or timed exclusives. If they can't bully them they bribe them, or even buy them.
