If anyone has noticed odd behaviour in their internet 3D games in the last week or so, it may be because Windowsupdate has installed this patch:

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/Bulletin/MS04-016.mspx

It caused a few problems on a couple of systems here, after taking it out they disappeared. It updates DirectPlay (internet) so if any games you have need the old DirectPlay, or your router does not like the new security features you can take it out and see if it clears up the problems.

NEVER install DirectX upgrades from Windows Update. I haven't for three years now, since every time I did, it screwed something up; since those dark days, I've had zero problems. It's best to download it straight from the DirectX page. I'd also not download NIC drivers, either. Same screwiness.
