Hey everyone, I'm writing because I'm at my wits end here. I'm hoping someone can tell me if my card is bad, or if it's something on my Windows/DirectX install.
I have an ATI X850 Pro with the extra pipes unlocked. I've been running it at 565/585. At this speed, I can let ATI Tool run the artifact tester for an hour w/o a single error.
I've been playing F.E.A.R. and Star Wars Battlefield II for the last few weeks with absolutly no issue.
Yesterday, I installed and started playing Call of Duty 2. It was running great at 1280x1024, 4xAA, and high details. I got through the first mission, and then the second started loading. After loading was complete, the "Click any Button to Start" text was corrupted, but the rest of the screen was fine. I clicked a button and started the level. My compass was just a big jumble of artifacts, as well as my gun. The rest of the screen was fine. When I hit "Escape" to exit, all the wording in the options menu was jacked up, too.
I exited the game, and checked my temps. Only 50C. I ran the artifact tester, and it went up to 65C, but reported no errors.
So I brought the clocks back down to 500/500 and tried the game again. As soon as the level loaded, same thing... corruption. Thinking it may be a DX9 problem, I tried some other games again. No probs at either 500/500 or 565/585.
Next, I ran DXDiag, and clicked Display -> Test Direct3D. The first test, which is the DirectX 7 test was just a big corrupted cube. Hit escape, move the the next test (DirectX 8) and everything was fine. Same with the DirectX 9 test. Only the 7 was jacked up.
So I uninstalled the Cat 5.11 drivers and wiped all the ATI software off using the included ATI uninstaller. I rebooted and installed the 5.10 Omega drivers. Same thing.
When I tried to install DirectX, it said it was up to date. Being as though there is no real way to uninstall DirectX, I reformatted and put XP Pro back on. I'm still getting the DX7 cube/COD2 corruption.
Is my card bad, or could something else be at play here?? Please help... I love this game!!
