Directx 11 Freezes with Crossfire

I am at wits end here. Starting yesterday every directx 11 program I run will work for a few minutes and then the picture will freeze and the computer will become completely unresponsive. I was ocing at the time so I blamed it entirely on the oc. So I tried it at stock, the same thing happened, thought maybe I corrupted some drivers so I uninstalled, cleaned, and reinstalled those (10.3b) and got the same problem. Since it seems to be only directx 11 apps (open gl and older directx games seem to work fine) I thought hell it might be directx causing the issue, so I reinstalled directx and that didn't solve the issue. So I thought well crossfire seemed to give some odd issues every once and awhile so I disabled crossfire and now the freezing as subsided. So I thought well seeing as I completely reinstalled the drivers and checked the crossfire cables maybe my second card is overheating and well some odd results there. My second card (bottom one) for whatever reason has always ran warmer than my first (top one) but now it's running a good 10 degrees cooler. Not that it should matter seeing as the hottest my cards got in furmark was 82 Celsius. I have no idea whats going on anyway, just completely stumped.

SOOO does anyone know why having crossfire enabled would freeze directx 11 games/apps? Thanks for the help

edit: Well this explains why my top is running hotter than it usually does, it running at clocks of 400/900 which in past experience on 5850s indicates an error or some sort. Hmm .. the clocks seem to only do this after boot, if I disable then reenable crossfirex then it uses the proper clocks.

oh and I forgot to mention the cards are 5850's the top being from ATI and the bottom from Asus.

are these by chance steam related games? the 400/900 clocks would be the multi-display 2D mode clocks or if your watching a video using hardware accel..

2 of the games are steam (metro 2033 & dirt 2) the other is unigine's heaven 2.0. But just cause 2, batman arkham asylum, and prototype work just fine. I only have 1 monitor and rarely (almost never) watch any videos. hmm, I might just have to do a fresh install of windows..
