if i get a card that supports up to 8.1 does that mean i cant play games that require 9.0, or does it mean that the games will only run the 8.1 settings

im lost in this mix up

You will be able to play them. You're simply sacrificing some of the visual effects which the card itself can not render. Most of the time these are purely eye candy. You shouldn't have anything to worry about when playing a dx9 game on a dx8 card. They'll play.

they should play fine, but i have heard of some rare issues with some newer games not playing at all, and i dont mean low frame rates. -these newer games being HL2 and FarCry. I cant tell you exactly what the issues were because, well, they werent mine ;)

Yeah, there may be some rare instances, but I was playing HL2, and Far Cry, among others on a Geforce 3. We're talking dx9 games on a dx7 card, so I don't think you'll have any problems. :)

this person isnt a graphic person,,, or at least on his budget he's cant be... i was looking for a directX 9.0 card,

its cheap but it will play DOD starcraft... games that arent crazy into graphics...

geforce fx5200
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-140-017&depa=1

the company itself said it was 128-Bit

i figure that would work at 1024x768

maybe EQ2 would work without all the bells and whistles...

Check ebay for a used video card like a GF4 Ti4600 or Radeon 9x00. The FX 5200 is an AWFUL card.
