Direct UPS - any thoughts?

I'm not seeing AVR on that.

And I'm sure it doesn't given how small it is.

If you want to keep portable, I can understand a "small and light" UPS, but do make sure you get an AVR/Line Conditioner as well. They're only about the size of a Rubik's Cube so carrying them around is no biggie.

I've got an extra Powercom 2000VA AVR I could sell you if you're interested. Prolly $20.

Johnny,
If he is not interested, I am. Let me know(I was about to drop $200 on a 900W unit).

Heh, I misunderstood. You were talking about a AVR only unit. I thought it was a UPS+AVR.

Ok, forgive my stupidity, what is the differance between ups and avr?

A UPS has a battery that maintains power to your computer after a power failure.

An AVR only maintains a constant voltage to your PC when the voltage on your mains fluctuates.

Some UPS's also have AVR.

AVR is great. Last week I had a power dip(complete loss of power for less than a second). The UPS I currently have my Fileserver on is too weak to power the system(Trips as soon as a pull the wall plug), but it has an AVR. It pushed right through the power dip and was still running when all the rest of my equipment was all turned off from the dip.

I live in an older house, sometimes when we use the microwave we trip a circuit breaker and it shuts down the computers also (3 computers). I was considering getting a UPS but after reading this I think I need to get both.

Yep. The one I have, you can hear it click for boost and trim whenever the AC kicks on, or the laser printer, etc. Cool stuff.

No... You really just need to get a UPS WITH AVR. That's the point I made in post #2. Get a cheap UPS and you end up spending more money because you end up also buying an AVR. Spend a little more money and you can get a UPS with AVR.
