If you can choose, should I get Dlink DIR-655
Hardware Version A3 or A4?

Thanks a lot

if I could I'd find the A2 version, I believe they did something with the newer revisions that make them worse.

Some review said A4 is less heat, shouldn't it be better?

It could also mean the manufacturer has cheaped out elsewhere in that router. One step up, two steps back, in other words.

I have hardware version A2 and it's the most stable router I've ever used. No clue what the new revisions changed.

I also have A2, with firmware 1.21, I was going to update the FW but saw that it was less stable, and that newer revisions were having more problems

Yeah, I've had a few issues with the 1.22NA firmware. I definitely recommend staying with 1.21.

A3 version here. Just recently stepped back from 1.32 to 1.21. Significantly more stable, and also snappier in the configuration UI. Pings to the router are much more stable now.

Does anyone know what the hardware differences are between the revisions? I can't seem to find anything concrete on this.

Here's what someone over at broadbandreports.com posted on the differences between the Revisions:

A1 had heat issues and the heatsink can fall off the NPU
This one has green amber lights
Memory Packet Buffer on Gig port was only 96KB

A2 introduce Bright Blue Amber Lights
It too had offered 96KB for Memory Packet Buffer
Fixed heat issues heatsink doesn't fall off the NPU

A3 introduced a new PCB and ROHL certified
Realtek Gig Controller introduced
Memory Packet Buffer now 832KB
Last expensive model produced.

A4 introduced a new PCB and ROHL certified
Realtek Gig Controller
Memory Packet Buffer 832KB
Cheaper design gone is the PCMICA WNPU
Now it's on the PCB.
