So, I am very upset. I have had my Macbook Pro about 4 months, and this morning I dropped my cellphone on the lid of the Macbook, and now it has a dent in it. A pretty noticeable ding. Anyone know of any ways this has ever been solved or have any suggestions? I was thinking of those things they sell for cars to pop out small dings but idk how that would work, or whether it would work at all.

I don't think i want to try to disassemble it, but if that's a option I could try it. It's only 4 months old and I spent almost $2k on it and that ding is really noticeable. I was thinking of going to the Apple store and telling them the screen goes out randomly or something to get them to replace the lid....

Idk... suggestions welcome. Lol. Thanks.

Live with it? It's a battle scar, a badge of honor. My 2006 Macbook has a bunch of scratches and dings in it.

Well, this my first Apple computer ever and I've never spent so much on a laptop so it is just one of those things I guess. I wanted it looking pristine as long as possible.

Live with it.

Apple won't fix it if there isn't a problem they can't replicate.

You risk fucking with it more if you open it up or try something made for cars.

put a skin on it, no one will notice and you'll be uber stylish.

Ask a Paintless Ding Removal specialist. They usually work on cars, but they will probably charge $80-100 if its just one ding. They usually work with steel though vs aluminum so it might be trickier and you will have to disassemble the LCD screen so they can get behind it.

There are a few tricks you can try like the dry ice trick. The cold dry ice is suppose to make metal pop back in place. Again though these tricks are usually for steel cars.

You might also be able to find a LCD top cover on ebay, but it will also be pricy.

I have bite marks from my cat on the corner of my '08 MBP. Gives it character :p

Are we talking about a dent as in a physical bend in the overall shape, or a ding/nick which is like taking a chisel and actually gouging the surface? If it's a dent, a suction cup might be able to "pull" it back out if you're extremely careful. If it's an actual ding or nick in the surface, that ain't coming out anytime soon.

As noted, consider it a badge of honor.

And also now that MacBook Pro is truly yours, 'cause it's highly doubtful there's another one that's exactly the same now. ;)

Disassemble the display carefully. Fuck up the cable in the back going to the lcd. Reassemble. Bring to apple and they will replace the whole clamshell. Thats really your only option.

fixed

Apple can/has/will deny warranties for LCD issues because of a dent in the cover.

For those saying go with PDR (paintless dent removal), or any PDR techniques (ie. suction cup, dry ice, etc.), that won't work. Aluminum doesn't have the same memory qualities as steel, so a suction cup won't work.

I know few people that don't have some kind of marks on their MBP's. I agree with those who say to treat it as a badge of honor.

Dents, dings, scratches, scuffs, my late 08 unibody macbook has them all. All aluminum apple products will end up ruffed up, it is just a fact of life.

You can buy a replacement aluminum top cover on eBay (I did this before selling my Powerbook G4 because it had a pretty nasty cosmetic scar) and they aren't that expensive / difficult to install, however it does void your warranty.

IMHO I would rather have a dented aluminum shell then a cracked plastic one.
