Dimension 9100 upside-down HDDs a problem?

I got a Dimension 9100 from Dell on mega uber ultra sale. It has a Western Digital 160Gb but the odd thing is you can only mount the HDDs upside down in the case. I always thought this would cause them to screw up but I'm sure Dell wouldnt mount them upside down if it would break them. So my question is, does mounting HDDs upside-down hurt them at all? Thanks.
 
Shouldn't. The drive operates in a sealed environment, and everything is for the most part fixed. You can mount a drive on its side too.
 
I knew that you could do them on their sides, but i was concerned about the heads doing something weird upside-down like hitting into things they shouldnt, oh well.
 
As long as the drive remains stationary, it should be ok. The drive is designed with such itght tolerances that the impact of gravity on its operation is near nil. Old 5.25" drives would sometimes suffer from platter flexing as the platters were simply very large with a lot of weight to hold up far away from the spindle, but 3.5" drives don't have this problem. Both the platters and read write heads are fairly rigid, and the air currents created by the platter spinning are enough to hold everything in place. All of this rigidity goes out the window if the drive is moved suddenly, such as if it is dropped or you get mad and punch your rig :eek:
