Guys,

I'm having some trouble deciding what to do and need your expert advice. I wanted to just upgrade my video cards but not sure what to do with my rig in my sig. It's sitting there right now - minus PSU - ordered the new Corsair 1000w and I was planning on maybe adding a GTX 480 to my setup. However, when the new PSU arrives and if it does not fire up my rig (having issues with it turning on, just a day or so ago) I'll know my 680i board is shot.

So.... what would you do,

1. Replace the motherboard with something cheaper and turn that system into a backup system or another computer and build a brand new gaming rig.

OR...

2. Just replace the motherboard (thinking of getting the ASUS Rampage III) and add a GTX 480 to it and keep it until next year.

the 775 socket is EOL so its not worth buying another mobo imho. The used market for ddr2 ram and 775 cpus is pretty good. I personally do a cpu, mobo, ram, gpu upgrade and sell the ram and cpu to off set some of the cost.

your still sitting on decent system. more so then a backup system. while the parts aren't worth all that much now you can still get some money out of them.I assume from your PSU choice that your looking at SLIing your 480 sooner or later so if you do rebuild then I would def go for the higher end i7 system. so part it out.

though as an after though trades some of the stuff for a backup system. you really don't need much for one, I use an old 939 board and Ubuntu.
