Hello hard forummers here...

Got a question which i think might be a noob one
I'm at a serious dilemma as in which HD to choose between master or slave..As u can see, i got a 20gb HDD(5400rpm) & a newly bought 80gb HDD(7200rpm), my mobo is a MSI ms-6198. I have updated my AMI bios to ver.1.6(support >40gb) running on UDMA 33/66 operation.

Should i install my OS in the 80gb HDD or the old 20gb HDD? which to set master or slave? Which HDD should i use to store my songs, videos and programs? I really need some advice quick, in fact... i am in the middle of plugging in the IDE cable, but stopped becoz of this dilemma...i hope the forummers here can advise me on this issue...

thanks a million in advance!

the 80 gig is the faster drive so it will run better with windows, however, it is the bigger drive and can store more data.

This is kinda hard to answer, but this is my opinion. Either you can split the 80 gig into 2 partitions ( 20 for windows, and the rest for storage ; then ur other 20 gig can be used as storage also)

Set the 80 gig to master and the 20 gig as slave.

That's one way. THe other way is to have the 20 gig as a master with windows on it and use the full 80 gig without partitioning as storage.

Hope this helps!

and how's that for fast help, within 20 mins:rolleyes:

Thanks for the speedy reply my friend..Appreciate that a lot!
I will take note of ur advice, and hope to hear more comments ..!

what else is there that you would like to know? I don't think there isnt many other things u can do with just 2 drives

Partition your 80 gig and install windows on one. Its faster, and you'll notice it.

Also, it doesn't matter at all which drive is master and which is slave. That doesn't actually affect anything, its just denotes which drive is which so the controller can differentiate.

i 2nd installing it on the 80 gig.. your mp3s and pron vids won't benifit from the faster HD as much as windows will.. of course you might have more than 20 gb of that stuff.. but put windows on the 80 gig.. its faster
