Digital slr for sister...

okay, my sister really wants a digital slr. that's all she wants for xmas, birthday, everything. Does anyone know any cheap-but good digital slrs? iwas thinking something cannon and in $500-600 price range.
 
Cheapest one I know is the Rebel XT. You might be able to find the original Rebel with the lens on eBay for around that price range.
 
Main options if you want to stick to top brands (Canon, Nikon) are:

Canon 300D Rebel
Canon 350D Rebel XT

Nikon D70(s)
Nikon D50

the D50 or the 300D are gonna be the cheapest... the XT and the D70 are the next step up.
 
You can probably find a used 300D for that much. I have that camera and it's wicked. You can probably find a used 10D or a D60/D30 if you can't find anything else. Try the Buy/Sell forums at fredmiranda.com
 
The Rebel XT would be my first bet. Then I would look for a good used D70. I have a friend in another forum selling his used D70 and a w/battery, Tom Hogan D70 e-book on CD, Magic Lantern D70 Guide 9printed Hoodman LCD screen cover (an original cover with some minor scratching) All the original cabeling,charger and manuals, Latest firmware loaded for $550
