digital input wont work???

well i havent gotten it to work yet, i have audigy 2 ZS sound card and i am trying to get it to work with my home theater. i am using this cable. http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/GE-D.../sem/rpsm/oid/78120/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do
i have 0 luck, it seems i have tried everything, but i jsut get no sound.
ps. my onboard has the spdif and i tried to conenct it using my onboard audio (ac97) it worked, but i really want to get my audigy working, thx for any help
 
You got a Audigy2 ZS version with a Live drive?
If not you got the wrong kind of cable.
(the digital output on the standard Audigy cards is a coax not optical interface)
 
i can connect through coax too, tell me how plz. i ahve a coax cable taht came with the home thather, how do i do that, do i need an adapter for it?
 
Could you go into a little more detail?

Like, did you connect the Optical cable from the front face plate of the Audigy 2 ZS Platinum(pro?) to the Optical Input on the receiver?
Do you even have a receiver....... what are you trying to plug it into?

When it was connected to the receiver(?) did you make sure you selected the mode that the input was under.... what I mean by this is some receiver must have you manually bind the optical input to something like "Aux, CD, DVD".

Lastly, did you open the sound controle for the Audigy 2 and made sure that the optical out was not mutted?
 
i do not have audigy 2zs platinum, i have the regular edition, that means i only have the card and nothing else, that cable that i have i connected to digital input on the back of audigy card, and the other end to spdif in the back of my ht reciever.
 
It's gonna work a lot better then trying to send an electrical signal down a optical cable. ;)

it'll also work better than trying to connect "input" to "input"... ;)
 
heh, circuit city charges 15% restocking fee, i mgiuht as weel use this cable for my dvd calbe, now i ahve an coax cable taht came with my home theater will taht work?
 
Yes, you put the 4$ adapter that MisterX linked to into the "digital output" of the sound card. Then connect the coaxial cable to it, and then connect that to a coaxial Input on the receiver.

Check out this picture (courtesy of Creative Labs). It shows an actual cable that converts a 1/8" cable into coaxial, which I'm sure creativelabs trys to sell, but the adatper and the coaxial cable will do the same thing.

Now that you mention it.... I bet that is what that other guy's problem was. :D
