Digital CRT?

Has anyone ever heard of a digital CRT with a DVI input?

Yes Iiyama used to do one, don't know if they still make it tho..
Waste of time imo, tried both DSUB & DVI & no difference as far as I could see anyway.

There are no CRTs which run with digital input even if they have a DVI Port.
DVI also supports the transmission of analog signals and that´s the way how it works with CRTs. A good BNC cable will produce better results.

Hmm,

Well interesting comment by Sailor Moon but the guy asked if there was a monitor with DVI input not if it actually ran using the digital signal. There was no way for me, at the time, to really tell if it was running full digital but are you absolutely sure?

CRT's are analog devices so even if there are some monitors that have a DVI port they are just using the analog pins of a DVI cable.

Consider for a moment High Def CRT front and rear projectors with DVI / HDMI inputs. They don’t use analog component of the digital cables to produce High Def.

here's no reason why a crt can't take a digital DVI signal in, there just needs to be a DAC inside the monitor.

Have a look at the specs. of the "DVI CRTs". You will see that they need a 18+5 oder 24+5 cable. If the transmission would be digital, you could use a 18+1 or 24+1 cable (as for the TFTs). The extra pins are needed for the analog signal and only this is used.
