Camera in question : Kodak EasyShare C433 (crap yes, but I don't trust my gf with my camera)
Computer : Alienware M5550

Drama : When I plug the camera into the usb port, my broadband connection gets throttled back to ~16KB/s from the normal 300-500KB/s

Only thing I can see in the task manager is a process called httpd.exe taking up 90% CPU time, but even killing this process leaves me slow until the camera is turned off or disconnected.

Any ideas?
 
httpd is used for the apache web server. Are you hosting a website? There may be some background utility that is using apache to do something as well. Try seeing what startup item or service is launching httpd as it sounds like there is a conflict. Also, is your network card onboard or PCI? Did you try switching the USB port you plugged your camera into?
 
Thanks for the reply - I've tried both USB ports, to no avail. The network card is onboard.

On stopping the apache service, I get a bit more speed, but not back to full strength - even killing all apache-related processes doesn't help. Only turning the camera off or unplugging the camera works.

I'll keep looking on google, and will post if I find anything. Any other avenues to look through would be appreciated.
