With our first child on the way, the wife and I have decided that we will need a digital camcorder to record important things. The problem is that the review sites just are not geared towards the average person. We would like to keep the cost around $500, but at the same time we want something that will last so we won't be having to replace it next year.
Most camcorders in our price range that have been reviewed always mention the poor low-light recording. The question is, how poor is poor? Why are there not sample clips provided to see how bad the image is? We aren't looking for high quality recording per se, but we do want it to handle the following;
Birthday parties outside (and inside)
School plays/ceremonies/etc. (can be pretty low light in my opinion, especially the plays)
Vacation pictures (beach, hiking, cavern tours like Carlsbad Caverns)
From what I could find, so far we are leaning towards the Panasonic PV-GS150, but the wife would like to keep the price a little lower.
Any good recommendations?
