PRO is the craptacular 12 pipe card that has the possibility of unlocking into a 16 pipe card, take your chances.

XT is the bargain low-mid range card... 16 pipes

XT PE is the mid-high end card... 16 pipes and clocked very high

Obviously the XTPE being rated for higher clock speeds will market you the best performance

The difference was clockspeeds and faster ram (and possibly pipelines - can't remember if the pro version ahd 12 or 16 pipelines). I take it you want it for agp because there are better cards in the price range for pcie versions. I never followed the GTO/GTO2 modding to X850's lark so I wouldn't know if they were the best deal but I'd say get either an XT or if you don't want to overclock, a XT PE.

i got an x850pro on the cheap, i wouldnt call it craptacular. ive yet to try to unlock it to 16pipes as ive read some cards have it hardware disabled.

best price/performance is the standard x850xt because it can easily oc to pe speeds...however if you want the best oc the pe should be your choice...if its only around $20-30 more then get the pe

thanks... how would you flash the pro up? im a little afraid of doing this but ive flashed mobo bioses before. if I flashed it, how big of an increase would i get? and how well would the pro overclock? ( as you may now know, i have the pro version...(it was the best agp card BB had and I got a LOT of gift cards) ).

Lets not forget that the X850 series were the best ATi had to offer before the X1xxx series which debuted NOT to long ago.

My point is the X850 are still great cards for gaming.

My X850XT PE can play COD2 at high settings with AA and AF and FEAR at max settings ('cept soft shadows) and have some AA and AF with 45 fps average so still a great card. Both of those games are being played at 1280x1024 resolutions.

Yeah I agree, I can run COD2 with my X850XT at 1680x1050 and have everything on high with a playable framerate of 30-50fps (not with AA and AF though), nothing spectacular but still comfortable

I can play fear with everyhing maxed (no soft shadows) at 1024x768 2xaa 4xaf

the funny thing is... I played almost everything on maximum at 800x600 2xaa, no aff and it looked the same with the same framerate with my 9800pro

with your pro unlocked you could play with more aa and af with higher settings or 1280x1024 with some aa and af

I wouldn't say theres a huge difference...what is it? 20 MHz on the core and 40 MHz on the RAM difference?

is that with the increase in clock speed or just unlocking the extra pipelines?

both...pipes should help more...but if you cant unlock the pipes just oc it to hell

ATI has, however, been making the chips that overclock better into XT PE cards... this usually means that XT PEs are generally better overclockers than the XTs.

There is a point...but it still is not worth the price premium.

My x850pro plays pretty much anything I toss at it at high settings. Sorry, but 900 points on 3dmark 05 doesnt make a card "craptacular"..

compare fear on a x850pro and a x850xt (pe) then youll see a huge difference
