Different fan speeds on Push/Pull

Hey there;

Like the title says, I have an H100 that right now only has two Gentle Typhoons pulling air in; they 1150 RPM.

Since I got a new case and can now fit to put the two extra fans on the H100, I thought of getting another pair. But alas, I can't find 1150 RPM anywhere. I see the 800 RPM and the 1450 RPM ones - at least on Amazon.

Is there a problem if I use different speed ones? And if so, what would be the best configuration to put them in: fastest ones pulling or pushing?

There are two potential problems. Not actual, but potential.

1. Resonance mismatch. As they spin different speeds, you may find them warbling as their frequencies go in and out of phase. Not a real problem, just annoying.

2. Turbine effect. If you double up the fans with nothing in between them, the slower fan will have zero effect on the throughput and pressure. However, this issue is kinda ambiguous on a radiator, because the radiator provides air resistance and if the air slows down to the slower fan's push speed, then it will have an effect. AKA I have no idea if the tubine effect will apply on your radiator or not, and cant make true comment. All i know is that it may be an issue.

As for best config, gentle typhoons are most effective in push. Put the faster ones pushing.

Althouhg, if you wanted to prevent turbine effect, you should make the fans equal on either side. AKA have the 1150's push/pull on one section, and the 900's or 1450's push/pull on the other section.

I have my H110 using different fans. I bought some Bgears B-Blasters. Those are on top pushing, the stock fans that came with it are pulling. The thing is, mine are on a controller at the lowest speed setting. I cant say if they are moving the same air or not, but I have zero issues using this setup. I have tried every setup possible and temps were the same.
 
I see; thanks. I've also tried looking around and most speak of "potential" and "theoretical" problems. Others who actually have such as setup report no mayor issues. Hum...

Probably I'll wait for a little extra moneys and buy all four and not mind any problems, potential or real.
 
+1 to everything that thesecond said. Faster fans in push, if there's any annoying humming or vibration then use matched pairs on each half of the rad.

Temperature is an amazing thing. People have a tendency to freak out about not having the best, or the lowest possible. SAFE temps are way more important than having the lowest. I never should of spent the extra money going to liquid. My CPU was never in danger of being too high on my EVO. I have been building systems for 12 years, I have never had a CPU or even a GPU go bad due to temps.
