Hi, I was wondering if anyone knew the main differences between each series of Xeon processors. Like the 3000 vs 5000 vs 7000, etc. Is it only the amount of cache? Tried googling some but couldn't find a simple site that stated the differences between them. Intel's site is horrible lol. Thanks!

Xeon 3000 and X32xx series are single CPU socket 775 chips

Xeon 50xx, 51xx and x56xx series are dual cpu 771 socket

Xeon 7000 series are 4+ cpu processor series. I am not sure the socket, but not for a desktop evironment.

Anyone have any benchmarks or reviews of a single 3060 vs a single 5160? I'm just wondering what the performance difference would look like with a price difference of ~$550.

the 3060 and 5160 are totally different chipsets and different sockets.

Wait for the x3220 to come out in a couple of days and have a quad core single socket xeon 2.4

I understand that they are different sockets. I was just wondering about how much performance difference there would be between the two(single processor only). Because if the 3060 performs almost as good as the 5160, then I don't need to spend the extra ~$550. Just trying to do a price/performance thing.

I have a 3060 in one of my computers. It is noticably faster than the 820d that it replaced.

IF that help any.

could you put one of the new quad core s775 xeons into a i965 board?

There are 775 socket quads, but you might need a bios update. IG your mob will take quad Core Duo's it SHOULD take the Xeons.

Caveat: I do not have a 965 board
