Differences in 3dMark 05 and 03?

I know that the scores are not comparable, because its like racing a 69 corvette with a brand new z06 corvette, but my 03 score is almost 3x higher than 05. I noticed that there are different versions of directx used, but what other technologies are different in the two? My mobile ati is about 2 years old now, and I am sure there have been big upgrades in the technologies used.

I havent gotten the chance to compare 03 and 05 on my new pc, since my motherboard died, but on my laptop its a significant difference. In 05, my laptop barely gets over 10fps in any of them, but in 03 it tears them up fps wise.
