Are there any major differences between the EE core i7 and the other 2 apart from the different clock speeds?
 
Of what i know is that 920 has the old way memorymultiplier like any Intelchipset has and 940/965 unlocked memory like 790i has. Might be just 965 that has thig goodies so i might be wrong about the 940.
 
Only the 965 has the unlocked multiplier - that's usually how the Intel line up works. Locked multiplier on the mainstream chips and unlocked on the Extreme version.

Just get the 920 - seems like just about every one of them can OC to 3.6-3.8GHz pretty easily. You MIGHT have a little more headroom on the 965 but at almost FOUR times the cost, is it really worth it?
 
EE has:
Higher guaranteed clock speed.
Higher QPI bandwidth
Unlocked cpu multiplier
 
Pysicly they are the same chip. They are binned differently and like the other members said, the Extreme Model has a Unlocked Multiplier. I Currently have my i920 at 4Ghz and it's stable as a rock. I probably could go higher but i'm satisfied with my speeds right now. Be aware that these chips pull a lot of power. My i7 920 at stock speeds pulls 200W. At my Overclock i'm nearly pulling 300Watt
 
Ok thanks guys. I'm just wonderinf which one to get.....I've never OCed before and I wouldn't know where to begin so I'm trying to see which one was the easiest to do ....so do they perform equally clock for clock as in will a 3.2 ghz 920 perform the same as a 965 stock?
