Difference in Temps from Fans

I have a Yate Loon (D12SL-12) which is the low speed (CFM: 47 dB: 28)

How much louder are the Medium / High Speed and how much cooler would they be?

Low (Current): CFM: 47 dB: 28
Medium: CFM: 70 dB: 33
High: CFM: 88 dB: 40

I know the faster ones push more air, and are louder, but I don't know how much difference it will actually make for me... anyone able to help me out?

if the noise isnt an issue then set it on high. it cant hurt. but if noise is a issue the try setting it on medium and see how it does. do you know what the temp of your chip is? what is your setup?

Well they are 3 different fans, not settings for the fans themselves. I already have a few of the low speed ones but was wondering if buying the higher speed ones would make much of a difference in temps, or if they would just be loud.

My comp is running @ 42c, 3.2ghz (e6600) and running SMP folding client.

I have the P180B case, with a Yate Loon in the front, another on my Ultra-120 pushing out the top. The 3 antec case fans are all on medium.

Also, does anyone know the CFM/dB of the antec's on medium? I have 2 extra Yate Loons sitting next to me but not sure if its worth it to replace the case fans or not with them.

Thanks :)

Antec Tri-Cool fan is (manufacturer) rated at:

Low/Medium/High
-----------------------------
1200 / 1600 / 2000 RPM
39 / 56 / 79 CFM
25 / 28 / 30 dBA

...keep in mind that all manufacturers tend to 'skew' (ok, sometimes lie) those values around, but in general, I'd say that if you're ok with the Antec fans on medium, then the medium YLs should be no problem. You might want to just buy one high YL + a $5.00 Zalman Fanmate II controller (assuming you don't already have some other fan controller) and play around with it - you can undervolt the high speed fan down until it's an acceptable noise level (the Fanmate can drop it from 11v - 5v, so just hooking the fan up to it drops it at least one volt).

Just for reference, I have all of my tri-cools set to low, for noise reasons :).

if your happy with your speed and your getting those temps while folding then your doing just fine. im OC'ed to 3.7 and im at 35 while at idle. 53 under load. 42 is just fine.

Yeah, just was wondering if the yates would be quieter and provide more airflow at the same time, but I guess they are pretty close comparing the specs.

SPCR reviews the Antecs and most likely your Yates in their roundups. Take a look and it should have the info you want.

Ah nice thanks, I've read their reviews before but missed these :)

According to it (for anyone who is also looking for an answer to my Q):

Antec Fans:
12V (High) / 36 dBA@1m / 1930 RPM / 73 CFM
Medium / 27 dBA@1m / 1430 RPM / 53 CFM
5V (Low) / 20 dBA@1m / 870 RPM / 30 CFM

Yate Loon / Nexus (Low):
12V / 22 dBA@1m / 1080 RPM / 47 CFM
9V / ~19 dBA@1m / 850 RPM / 35 CFM

Medium Yate Loon was damaged but provided these:
12V / 32 dBA@1m / 1640 RPM / 54 CFM
9V / 28 dBA@1m / 1350 RPM / 42 CFM

Scythe S-Flex (Medium):
12V / 23 dBA@1m / 1230 RPM / 51 CFM
9V / 20 dBA@1m / 910 RPM / 36 CFM

Scythe S-Flex (High):
12V / 31 dBA@1m / 1590 RPM / 70 CFM
9V / 23 dBA@1m / 1190 RPM / 53 CFM

Noctua (NF-S12-1200 / High) (See Note Below):
12V / 25 dBA@1m / 1250 RPM / 63 CFM
9V / 21~22 dBA@1m / 1020 RPM / 52 CFM

So, I have 53 CFM from my current Antecs since they are set @ medium, and they are putting out about 27dB. I know that 36dB is way too loud when I turn them up, so while there are a few fans that push out more air and are quiter, these fans are actually pretty damn good @ low / medium (for stock anyway).

Also I just read on their site they have a new way of testing, which makes some of the above numbers wrong (like the Noctua). Its not as good as it claims, so I guess I'll have to wait for a newer review heheheh.

Anyway, conclusion from reading all the stuff on their site, changing my fans out won't make much of a difference airflow / temp wise, just noise.
