Difference between two 300GB Maxtor 16MB models? 6B vs. 7B?

Well, here are the links to maxtors data sheets for both drives.

The best I can tell the 7xxx Maxline III series is intended for the business channel, and the 6xxx series is a Diamondmax 10 for the standard retail box channel. Both data sheets have very similar and exact specs in most regards. The MAxline data sheets just list a shitton more details.

The Maxline series is only listed as coming in 250 and 300 flavors, and uh, well... yeah.

So I haven't really helped, but I tried.

I called Maxtor to find out the difference.

There is no difference in the drives other than:

The Maxline III (7B version) lists that it will operate 1,000,000 hours on average before failing.

The Daimondmax 10 version (6B) lists 600,000 hours.

The Maxline III supports PATA and SATA. PATA is parallel ata - the normal ribbon cables we're all used to.

That's about it. The 7B version of course specifically lists SATA-2 but the tech said they both were SATA-2 capable drives.
