difference between tower-ATX and desktop-ATX cases?

well...one stands up, the other lies flat (and i also noticed that midtower atx cases generally seem to have much better cooling than desktop-ATX cases...)

are there any advantages of using desktop-ATX? they seem to lack cooling but i think they look cool.
