I wanted to buy a NEC WGX2, but just saw a press release that the WGX2Pro will be released in december.

I looked at the specs, but as far as I can see, I don't see difference in both screens.
Both the contrast and brightness as the viewing angle is the same.

Is this exact the same display and if not, anyway knows whats different? :)

Not sure where you are located but if you are in the States that press release is irrelevent since the Pro is only being released in Europe.

On a side note i blieve the only difference is the optional soundbar.

Hi travbomb,

Thanks for your reply.
I live in The Netherlands which is Europe.

I just got of the phone with a salesrepresentative of NEC and he told me that the WGX2Pro has a better contrast (1000:1 in stead of 700:1) and that it is compatible with multiple resolutions (?!).

He indeed also mentioned a 20w soundbar

The different contrast does suggest a complete new screen. Now the question is, is this screen ASIPS :)

Anyone got more info on the used panel in the new pro serie?
This because salesrepresentative aren't the most trustfull persons for info on technical stuff ;)

I'm pretty sure WGX2 has a contrast of 700:1, go off what travbomb says, he works for NEC i believe.

edit: I just googled it to make sure and i found this site claiming it has a contrast ratio of 1600:1, beats me

The 1600:1 sounds highly dubious to me....even though the 20WGX2 has a "dynamic contrast" setting for games and such. Contrast ratio seems to be one of the specs (along with response times) that manufacturers like to round up to the next highest even number...or outright lie about.

Keep hearing that the Pro version is only going to be released in Europe but I only see that mentioned on this forum, no where else. Anyone know where this info came from?

1600:1 is a dynamic contrast. The static contrast is 700:1.

It is a will still be using the AS-IPS LG-Phillips panel.

What I'm saying is that there is no industry standard for measuring contrast (or response time) so you pretty much have to take such numbers with a grain of salt. There's no doubt that the 20WMGX2 is probably the best performer among the 20" widescreens though..

HMmmm have this monitor sitting in my basket for $562.00.... temptation growing stronger... must be strong.....

see the details here. The new 20WGX2 Pro is identical to the 20WGX2 in every way except that it now supports the 20W soundbar. This was confirmed by the head of the GX2 product line at NEC as well. The other models (70GX2 and 90GX2) are slightly updated in terms of contrast ratio and response time, but the 20WGX2 remains the same. The contrast ratio is rated at 700:1 still, but with 1600:1 achievable through the use of DFC (advanced DVM mode).
