Difference between single vs. multiple 12V rails?

Hello. What's the difference between having a single 12V rail vs. having 2 or 4 or whatever. Don't you still get the same plugs/connectors regardless?

For instance, take a look at these 2 PSU's:
Rosewill Green Series RG530-2
Rosewill Green Series RG530-S12

They're exactly alike in everything, except the second one has a single 12V rail. Is that better? Why?
