difference between mva and pva

Hi I Would just like to know what the difference is between MVA and PVA and also is one better than the other? or is one like an older technology then the other. thanks :)
 
I'm just going by memory but I think the technology was originally made by samsung and called PVA then other companies either copied or liscenced the same tech and just named it MVA. I could be completely wrong however.
 
MVA was developed in 98 by Fujitsu as a compromise between IPS and TN. Shortly thereafter, Samsung came outh with PVA, which is pretty much the same although there are obviously big differences.
Both MVA and PVA use 8-bit LCDs for good colours, have high viewing angles and while the specified response is often around 25-30ms, that is only true for black-white-black transitions. Transitions between other colours that are close to each other can take as long as 120ms making these screens unsuitable for gaming.
PVA can achieve a contrast ratio of up to 1500:1 while MVA can only get to about 800:1. Unlike PVA, there are many different companies making MVA panels however, and some may only achieve a 300:1 contrast ratio even though they specify 600:1. Samsung is the only company making PVA panels.
PVA has a slight problem differentiating between the blackest blacks when looking directly at the screen, but viewing angles better than MVA and on-par with IPS.

S-PVA is basically an improved PVA panel with overdrive which ensures consistent response times across the board. A good example is the Dell 2405, which many praise for having none to very little ghosting.

P-MVA signifies "improved" MVA panels. This does not necessarily mean overdrive, just "improved". Since there are many different companies making these, it is hard to pinpoint what it is exactly that's improved, since it diffeers from company to company. Basically, you get something better than MVA, but how much better is hard to tell and depends on the panel manufacturer.

Unless you can read Danish. Appreciate the summary, but let's not generalize.
