Difference between ATI X800 XT vs x800xl

I have the oppurtunity to buy a pulled dell x800XT for about 300$ I was wondering if there is a big difference between this and the x800xl and the 6800Gt I saw people posting that they can buy 6800GT's from newegg for 300$ I really am not 100% sure if there is a huge difference bewtween all of these. This card will be going into the new system I am building which is:

3000-3500 venice
DFI Lan Party
1-2GB of Corsair value select ram
1-2 300GB Seagate Barracudas
PS Not 100% sure yet but it will be a 450+watt.
Please tell me what you think since I am very curious as to what makes the most sense. thanks!

the x800xt is arguably a touch faster than the 6800GT but the GT has more features...the x800xl is arguably a touch slower than a 6800GT...

usually price is enough to sort this out...but with everything running at $300...it's a toss up between the x800xt and the 6800GT...if you like OpenGL games, get the GT...if you like HL2...get the x800xt...if you want to play around with HDR and soft shadows in some of the latest games (albeit at a much lower framerates) get the GT...if you just wanna run normal IQ as fast as possible...the x800xt is a very fast card...

you might also consider warranty support...in which case a brand new GT would have the upper hand...
 
You could possibly overclock the xt to xt pe speeds too....that is if u wanna overclock.

I would say it's quite likely since the xtpe is only 20Mhz faster...;)

and the GT will just as easily go up 50Mhz to Ultra speeds...

hmm...the OEM dell xts are still clocked at 500Mhz right?

I said possibly as he may not wanna oc.....altho I do think ppl that have XT's have a duty to oc :D

Thanks for your replies! Warranty wise I am not sure if ATI would support an pulled dell card but the speeds are: "Stock speeds: core at 500 and memory at 500/1000. I will include a molex to PCIe connector. "

I wrote him an email and he o/ced it looping 3dMark 05 to 520 core, 520 memory.


I am still debating it since from some posts about the 6800GT you can get them for 300$ on newegg. ( just not sure if they are good or not) With that info what do you think? I really appreciate your help since this is going into the new system I plan on building What do you think of the combo and compatability. I mainly play WoW but wanted to do some Doom3 and Half life :)
 
Well, since your talking about a dell pull then you can forget about a warentee. And since your forgetting about the warentee anyway, then why not get the leadtek 6800gt from newegg for $300 and then OC that baby with the massive stock HSF past ultra speeds? then you got yourself a 6800Ultra practically out of the box for $300 bux. Not a bad deal if you ask me. Of course you realize you void the warentee when you OC the card.

yeah, too bad a pci-e version is $340
 
...You're complaining about $40 more? For $300 I wish that the 6800GTs were that price when I built my rig, although with the X800XL I don't need to replace any loud-ass fans.
 
I actually did not want to void a warranty since I would not wnat to of put 300$ down only to find out it that the card did not work. From what I understand the 6800GT is a step below the XT but the 6800GT has more features. I am very interested in getting the xt but if I can get a card brand new with some sort of warranty that seems like a better deal than compared to this if it offers equivalent performance. I only have 300-350$ to spend on a card if not less since I am tryign to build my system for less than 1k.
 
the only features the gt has over the xt is sli support and sm3
if thats important to you then go nvidia
or you could get the xt and it should work with ati's sli thing and of course the xt will prolly perform better in every game (save for maybe doom3)
 
Game wise, the main game I seem to be playing now adays is WoW. I get 20-30 FPS on the lowest of the lowest settings. So anything that can actually make this game look good will make me happy. After shipping the x800xt will come to about 350. Is the Leadtek a good deal? I heard the BFG's were better. Lowest pricest x800xl I saw was the connect3d for 279. If I remember right the x800XT Dell is 500mhz which was able to be overclocked to 520/1000 Hmmm... thats about 100-120 faster if I am right.
 
i can play WoW completly maxed @ 1280x1024 with 8xAA all sliders to the right and all boxes checked and walk into and out of ironforge like its nothing
if that helps you any ^^ thats on the rig in my sig :cool:
ps get a gig of mem it REALY helps with WoW
 
6800GT for $300 at newegg = win. most future proof, most features, best IQ w/ fp16 hdr, fastest speed for price
