difference between ASUS a8n32 and a8r32

the A8R32 will run both ati cards at x16 hence the 32 in the name :)

they both are great boards for stock and overclocking. the A8N32 uses a heatpipe cooler for the northbridge and i heard that it will have problems in certain cases where the board is flipped upside down. the A8R32 doesn't need it and just uses regular heatsinks. so that means the A8N32 runs hotter than the A8R32 and uses more wattage.

they are both equally the same just depends on your needs, ie. Sli or Crossfire.
 
THe BIOS is a mish mashed, rushed to production debacle. Look at the thread @ driverheaven forums of the people beggin for new BIOS's. Tons of USB problems, memory settings that arent available, or are, and dont work, some that dont change when you set them and CMOS problems.

Seems like as soon as Asus got a good review from the web they just moved on. They did release a new Bios on 0502 but I didnt notice one diff.

My personal problems are complete unreliability with my TCCD. I have to run a 166 divider on TCCD that has run 1:1 2.5-4-3-6 all the way to DDR622 and cant get my Opty to 3.0Ghz on stock V that I could with my DFI.

My advice is stick with Nvidia untill ATI/AMD get rolling as Nvidia has has great success with their chipsets.

I am soured by Asus as of late. Looking forward to firing up my 975XBX and E6600/E6700:)
 
I have the A8N32-SLI and would love it if I could get it running stable. I think it's my board though and might not reflect on ALL of them. However, I've heard a lot of people, on a lot of forums, talking about RMA'ing A8N32s so I have to wonder if there isn't a certain level of chance if you get a good one or not.

If you're going to install it in an inverted case (like the Lian-Li v-series cases) I'd highly recommend replacing the heatpipe with active sinks. Although I haven't seen any formal testing to say the heatpipes don't work upside-down the arguments that it won't work as well (at the least) are convincing enough that I did. The problem with replacing the heatpipe: finding a spare Mosfet sink for the one's cooled by heatpipe.

If you're talking about the A8N32... come to think of it... I did get mine back in late February/early March.
 
Well I got my A8R32 MVP on the day it came out, yes had the problem with stock 0211 bios but after that a rock solid board. No problems whatsoever.
 
I am just waiting to get my Conroe rig running then I am RMA'ing the A8r and selling it to a friend.
