hello all,

I was curious as to whether there is that much of a difference between a 8MB cache HHD and a 2MB cache HDD. I have the Western Digital 80GB Model WD800BB and was looking at the Western Digital Special Edition 80GB Model WD800JB . As far as specs go, everything is the same between the two drives except for the amount of cache. Also, i want to mention that my 80Gb is my main system HDD. Is the speed difference greater (b/w 8mb & 2mb) when it is your main system HDD? Thanks for all help!

ive used two identical drives WD with the different cache amounts. the difference is quite noticeable when you multitask.

it's quite noticable in general.

i went from a 120 gig 2mb cache, to a 160 gig 8 mb cache. for the same amount of data, the AV scan time went from 40 minutes to 12 minutes.

I multitask heavily all the time so I wouldnt't know what the difference is without multitasking ;) :p
