Difference between 1900xt and XTX

Is the only difference the core and memory speeds? How much faster is the XTX if you play your games at 1024*768 high quality? Is the XT better then the Nvidia 7900 gtx 512? If not is the XTX better then it?

Any of the 3 cards you mentioned will be just fine.Take the one that is cheaper and have fun! With the xt-vs-xtx you'll be missing a few fps at most, so in other words, your really not missing a thing as the price difference does not justify paying more for say 2-3 frames.

The 7900GTX is a good card as well, but you'll be paying more for it.Going with ATI or NV you'll be happy. Good Luck

basically, the order of performance (in single card ;) ) for the 3 cards you mentioned is

x1900XTX
7900GTX
x1900XT

with the first two switching places in some games :p

depending on your set up right now, an nVidia 7950 GX2 may be a good option as well as they arent much more than a 7900GTX IIRC (havent compared the two in ages :p and im not in the US... :p )

especially at that resolution. All of these cards are pretty much overkill for that purpose but for the purpose of answering your question, the XT and XTX models are 98% identical. Nvidia's counterpart that you may remember was the 6800gt and Ultra.

Additionally, please consider the power consumption of these cards. They are power hogs especially the ATI cards. So in addition to the card, you may be purchasing a PSU--which is what just did with my 1900xt.
 
Heres were you will really call me a moron lol...I am ALREADY using an Nvidia 7800 GTX clocked at 700/1.40

Every game I throw at it runs excellent in high quality EXCEPT OBLIVION which I am dying to play and do not want to play with the graphics settings crippled..Half Life 2 , Doom 3 , Quake 4 , Battlefield 2 , GRAW , FEAR , Prey all play fantastic at high quality and 1024*768...oh besides Oblivion the Tomb Raider Legacy demo with the next gen functions enabled also is slow as crap for some reason so I bought it for the XBOX 360 instead but I don't want to do that for Oblivion cause I want to play the usermade mods too..So in your humble opinions should I go for the XTX as an upgrade to the 7800 or should I STFU and live with the very good setup I have. I am using a Pentium D 3 GHz Dual Core and I also have a SATA 2 3 GB/s hard drive and 2 gigs of DDR2 533 ram..it kind of baffles me why Oblivion is so slow , even inside the jail in the beginning its a stutter show at 1024*768 even if I turn off HDR.
 
yeah oblivion is one of those few games ati pwnz nvidia on (i'll probably get flamez0red for saying that)
 
An X1900XT isnt quite overkill for Oblivion, it may not be necessary though depending on what you want.

Even at 1024x768, I would recommend a x1900xt over the x1800xt for Oblivion if money isnt an object.
The X1800XT is flawless as long as grass distance is turned down a bit, all other settings maxed out, HDR and 2xAA, 2.7GHz A64, 1GB ram.
It really is nice, but to get full grass distance and higher AA an X1900XT is needed.

For the mostpart, I could max everything, but there are odd situations where it needs more power so I cant quite max everything if I want a totally smooth gaming experience.

ATI has a version of the drivers called the Chuck Patch which allows the use of HDR and AA in Oblivion.
Sadly NVidia hasnt got similar so NVidia cards cant run HDR and AA simultaneously in Oblivion.
 
If you're really wanting to play Oblivion with the settings turned up and have the money to burn you almost have to go with one of the ATI cards. The HDR+AA is definately something to behold in that game. I'd say go with the XT because the XTX is just a very small clockspeed increase. You can overclock and get there if you really want to so might as well save the cash.

Agreed, you could snag one of those HIS xt's with the better cooler and just overclock it to xtx speeds, that's what I plan on doing with mine once it comes in.

That's what I AM doing :D My HIS x1900xt is at 682/1548. I'm playing Oblviion at 1440x900, 4x AA, 8x AF, with HDR as well. I was initially playing at 1680x1050 but I found that my fps dipped to far into the 20's when I was in heavily forested outdoors areas, and this was with only HDR, no AA/AF.

Just make sure you control the card's fan speed, I'm using ATI Tray Tools.
 
Apparently the XTX has better memory though so it might overclock better than the XT. Depends on how much you value the extra $60 or so.

What kind of processor you running with that?

I'm planning on eventually going Crossfire, I'm going to get the NEC 20wmgx2 which I'll be gaming at 1680x1050. With my 3200+ @ 2.4GHz and a x1900xt crossfire setup I think I should be able to game at that rez with 2xAA + HDR.
 
I have an Opty 165 @ 2.52ghz. With a crossfire setup I think you should be able to get the settings you want without any problems at all- in fact, you should be able to run higher AA/AF I would think.
