Hippo for Harbey Birdman: Did you get that thing I set you?
That fake eBay e-mail?

If you did what did you do?

I had a feeling it was fake but I opened it to see how real it looked.
Placing my cursor over the links and looking at the link in the status bar confirmed the weirdness.
Then deletion.
I tell the best stories! :p

I'm not familiar with this phishing stuff. Is this what you're talking about?

I just received this email recently. I do have an eBay account, but it's registered under my Charter mail account, not my Gmail one.

I'd say any e-mail like that which asks you to click on a lynk is trying to steal your info.

You should report that immediately.

Will that do any good? Probably not. But doing nothing certainly won't help.

My spam filters caught it and filed it in my spam folder. I had to check the folder to see if I'd gotten it.

I love spamassassin.

Just to have a bit of fun with this, what things from the email tipped you off that this was a fraud aside from the huge red warning gmail gave? This is what I came up with:

broken image in the top-right corner
no eBay banner
not image-intensive enough, really
link given is not a secure page
oh and this:

eBay will request personal data (password, credit card/bank numbers, and so on) in this email

The sad thing is that someone out there somewhere would fall for something like this even if they put in the middle of all that: "This is a scam."

I got it, but my spam filter pre-emptively trashed it.

Whenever I catch a phishing email I fill out fake info on it and spam the submit button, just to mess with em.

Ive got one before, so I contacted e-Bay and they told me it was a scam. So I deleted it.
