Why the hell would you want a FX5900?

How should I know?

I meant the cooler, its so kickass

edit; Are the FX Series cards really that bad?

Some of them even had a temp display on the side, the coolers are very kickass.

I owned a Gainward 5800 FX, it wasn't that bad. Scrolling through ebay became annoying however because the leave blower would turn on (all the thumbnails). Watercooling and the heatsink you just found where the only ways to enjoy the 5800 FX. It usually traded spots with the 9700 pro depending on the game, and usually fell to the 9800 pro. People got some awesome overclocks with it however.

Yes, the FX series was terrible. Funny how you are a staunch ATi advocate, and never knew how bad the nVidia GeForce FX was.

There is a 128mb one for sale. Refurb. Knock yourself out. But don't say I didnt warn you.

I'm very 'un!!!!!!' as I've owned a host of nVidia, ATI and 3Dfx cards, and it definately was a piece of crap.

I've only owned nVidia except a shitty xpert98 16mb card and 2 3DFX's, and I must too say that the FX series was garbage and that the R3xx series killed it badly.

i'd say if you upgrade from you're mx440, a fx5900 would be nice gain in performance, once owned a creative fx5900 with a slower memory (cheaper!), it was a bit faster than a stock ati9700.
but considering the today prices of this card i suggest you to go with a gf6600gt.
could somebody explain why the last gen cards didn't drop in price with the new mid range cards kickin' ass for about 200 bucks?

I hadn't until you asked me that.

Then I found this:

Guess you're right.

Though it still doesn't seem like a piece of crap. Especially
if someone was upgrading from an older card and found a great
deal on the 5900.

Yeah, that's true, but you can get a 128mb, 256bit 9800PRO for $130 now from newegg. Aint no deal on a 5900, short of free, thats going to beat that.

I think it looks cool. was it effective is the question.

Im not planning to upgrade to one. I was just curious if A) That leatek ever exsisted (cuzz it looks so kickass) and B) Why everyone always sais the FX Line sucked

If I'm right, the FX serise cards can't run DX9 for shit, and only a !!!!!! would ever buy one over a 9700/9800 series card...

actually it looks like that particular fan drew heat away. There doesn't seem to be any ducts for the air to vacate anywhere.

It is a push pull design, 2 fans.
Check the link I posted.

Hey Hate_bot, why don't you stick to your plan with the r520 ? :p

that card might look cool, and probably u can't find it new anymore, maybe used, maybe, but a 9800pro will eat that thing up...hehe.

Not. A 9800 Pro will "eat that card up" at DX9, nothing else. When that card came out DX9 games were a year away.

BTW Leadtek used that design for the 5800U as well.

well there's absolutely no reason to get that card except for the looks :) correct me if I am wrong. 9800pro's are going for 130ish now and the 6600gt is just a notch above the 9800pro in performance/price.

and Rollo, why are you defending the 59/58XX series, they are long gone dead hehe, even though the cards came out before dx9 did, it doesn't really matter anymore b/c most if not all games coming out today uses dx9 :) so as I was saying, the 9800pro will eat that card up anyday, breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner, desert, and midnight snack :p sorry i got carried away, and I dont think v/c can eat each other hehhehehh

I would rather process ploygons with my ass than have a FX card do it... thats how bad they were.

i dunno... polygons are kind of pointy :D.

geforce FX isn't THAT bad.... just force DX8 and you're good :).

but that card looks awesome!

actually i traded a 5600nu for that card, and uhhh yeah it was piece of shit and the cooler didnt keep it cool, and it was fucking heavy as fuck. i traded it for a kit a ram.

HA! :D :D
can i sig that? ;)

anywho, i thought i'd jump in... with properly written shaders (read: hand tweaked to hell and back) the FX architecture isn't tooooooo bad. i think the original fan is what killed it. i need to get myself one just for that heatsink so i can drive my roommate insane next year
