Today, i installed a CPU Fan, as i would always get 50 deg C with the stock fan. I installed a Cooler master 80mm CPU fan with some Arctic Silver 5.
I got this coolermaster fan xcept it was the intel 478 pentium 4 version

Its on newegg (the amd version) Cooler master CK8-8JD2B-0L <sorry i cant copy n paste on my old computer for some reason>

Well anyway, I took off the stock intel fan (had a tough time, didnt really know how to get it off, was pulling on it and moving it around then got it off), cleaned the top of the processor with a cotton swab and alcohol that was recommended on the Arctic Silver site. Then i put arctic silver on top of the processor (maybe a little more than was directed on the Arctic silver site), set on the Cooler master heatsink and fan ontop of the cpu then twisted it a few degrees clockwise and counter-clockwise, like what the manual said. and locked it on top of the cpu.

When i went and plugged in my computer, There was nothing on screen, there were 3 beeps, then 2 beeps after that i think.

I remember from before when i got my geforce 6600 gt and installed the card, the card did not have enough power to run and i heard a series of beeps too. I got a 500 watt psu and that solved my problem.

Im not sure what is wrong this time, the cpu fan spins when i turn ont he computer, but the motherboard just beeps, and nothing appears on the screen. What do you guys think is the problem?

Edit: I forgot, while installing, i took out my two rd ram sticks and my graphics card. after my computer couldnt boot, i reseated my graphics card and ram again and its still didnt work
 
Make sure you plugged in your 6600, also make sure your ram sticks are in the right slots.
 
arctic silver is electrically capacitive to a degree.....applying too much will allow it to squeeze out around the edges, and if it gets on any IC legs or anything it should't basically, it can cause issues
 
YAY! my computer works again :)
I reseated all my ram and my graphics card, made sure all the plugs were connected and put on my cpu fan again.
It was a pain getting it off because all of the arctic silver i put on the processor made it like glue to the heatsink, when i pulled out my heatsink, the processor was still attached to it :eek:! Good thing no pins were bent or pulled out. A little of the arctic silver overflowed down the side, but didnt touch the silicon part of the chip. I cleaned the arctic silver off, and reapplied a smaller amount as recommended on the Arctic Silver site. Now everything is perfect, thank you guys for your help
 
Ya, sounds like you have WAY too much Arctic Silver on.

It is meant to just be a very thin film like covering, not a goopy sticky mess. It is there to fill in the microscopic valleys on the heatsink/cpu not to insulate it. It's actually counterproductive to have too much on...

And ya, I have had trouble before with graphics cards/RAM/CPU's not seated right or something not connected and nothing works. Very scary but once you go through the rounds usually you can find what is wrong. Congrats on your fix though ;)
