In the past 2 weeks I have been collecting parts for a security camera system for my house. I bought a really nice 4 channel high def DVR board but it only works with an intel 845 or 865 chipset. I found out the hard way after buying 2 boards and returning them.

I found out that I need the p4 board before I took the second one back so I kept the 2.4A P4 so I can use it on the next board. Correct me if Im wrong but I thought the "A B C" after the speed rating was to show the FSB rating A=400 B=533 C=800 but my box says "2.40Aghz 533MHz system bus"

Now the question is I ordered a new 845gl board from the egg and it says "FSB 533/400MHz" on thier site, but after looking on the tyan site tonight they say it only supports 400MHz. Will my 2.4a 533 proc work in this 400mhz FSB board??
 
2.4a is a prescott, 533mhz. 512kb

the 2.4 is the northwood 400mhz. since there was never a willy 2.4, it didnt have an 'a' like, for example, the 2ghz NW did. it had the 'a' since there was a willy 2.0 before it.

if hte board supports prescott, itll work.

Actually, 2.4 was a Northwood+400, then there was a 2.4B: Northwood+533. 2.4A is a Prescott+533, confusingly enough.

Thanks, that's what I was trying to clarify. There was something leaping out at me about the post, I was too distracted to sit down and figure out what it was.

I was also kinda amused by the skip from 2.4 to 2.4B, and then back to 2.4A.
 
God I feel like a fuck tard this month. I got that board in today open it up and no agp slot, I was like POOOO!!! So I sent it back and now gettin a AOPEN i865Gm-IL Lemme tell you Im getting sick of this crap, I have never had near this much trouble building a computer. Not once out of all the past ones I have built had any problems with getting the wrong parts. I think this DVR card is makin me crazy because its so damn picky and I hate people that are real picky.

not the 2.4A afaik.. i thought it had 512...

i know intel cut down cache sizes of prescott for lower end p4's

edit: ah, sorry, my bad. the 2.26 prescott is the one that had 512 instead of 1mb

Yeah, sorry about that. The GL chipsets from Intel used to not support external graphics. i845GL didn't have AGP, and neither did 865GL. 915GL was the first one I can think of.
