Ok, i have the system in my sig, and i just bought a zalman 7000 alcu to help with cooling, and i am seeing better results now :). Heres the thing though, i OCed on my stock HSF from 200 fsb to 215 i hit a roadblock, so i upped the voltage on the processor to 1.6. I managed to get to 220 and now i hit a roadblock again. THis time i dont know what to do. I heard that over 1.6 is dangerous, but i do have nice cooling, 6 fans in my case and the zalman 7000 on my proc. What do i need to do next to get more of an oc? It did fail prime95 when i tested 225 fsb. Input? Thanks :)

Could be ur ram limiting it. What brand , model of 3200 do you have? What timings are you using on it? Theres a prog called Memory Monitor 5 you can DL to check on ur ram ( you can google it and its a free prog).

come on guys, help me out, i wanna do this tonite!

I did reply in your other post and I don't wanna beat a dead horse but you may have reached the limit of that chip. You probably have an older Northwood or the '12 cap' model. If you remove your cpu and look on the underside you will see 12 little square caps. The newer Northwoods have 30. I'm not sure what those caps are exactly but they seem to make a difference when OC'ing. The older Northwoods just don't OC worth a crap. I had a 12 cap 3.0c and couldn't get it past 220fsb either. No matter what I did. Three different types of ram, two different mobo's, all manner of bios settings and voltages, it just wouldn't get past 220fsb. I've seen some of the 12 cap cpu's get past a 10% OC and I hope you do, but the odds aren't in your favor for a very good OC with that cpu.

well that sucks. Im looking to tighten my ram timings, what would be better, to go up or down? Im a ram newbie, but i been reading up on it. Currently, its 2.5-3-3-7, what should i tighten my timings to at first and how do i progress?

Try 2-3-3-7. If that works then try 2-3-3-6 if it doesn't work then try 2.5-3-3-6. The only problem I have when messing with my timings is that when it's wrong, often times I have to reset my cmos to get it to post again. Take notes of what your doing, makes it a lot easier to keep track of successes and failures.

Have fun fiddling with it and good luck!!

Check your mobo manual, it'll tell you how. Basically all you do is move a jumper from one set of pins to another for a minute or so. Make sure your comp is unplugged while you do this. Don't be afraid, resetting the cmos is part of OC'ing. :D

No, you won't have to reinstall your bios. What it does is resets all settings to default.

this presents a problem, my mom, being the neatfreak she is, threw out my computer manuals and stuff, so i dont have those anymore. Pissed me off like hell when it happened, but that does present me with a problem, mobo is an ABIT IS7-E

ahh, thanks side, you have been most helpful. I wish most of hardforum was as good as you. You set the standard!

Oops, one last question, it says turn off all power, including the +5V standby power, where is that? Will unplugging my computer work?

All you have to do is unplug it while you reset the cmos and you'll be fine.

And your welcome. Good luck!!
