I recently bought new ram for my Dimension 4700, for some unknown reason, Dell shipped me a different model type then what I originaly purchased online.

My current ram is two sticks of... Samsung 512MB 1Rx8 PC2-3200U-333-10-A1

Dell shipped me two sticks of... Hynix 512MB 1Rx8 PC2-4200U-444-12

I understand very little about ram, so could someone please tell me if Dell shipped me the wrong type, or will this ram (Hynix 512MB 1Rx8 PC2-4200U-444-12) work fine in my system with my current ram?

Thanks!

If you overclock the memory sometimes mixing different ic's can lead to stability problems. However, on your stock dell I hightly doubt it will have any issues. The only thing I see different between those specs is that the timings on the hynix modules are slower than the samsung's. 4-4-4-12 vs 3-3-3-10, I don't even think you can adjust your ram timings on a dell bios so I don't know how two cas4 modules and two cas 3 modules would respond. If you wanna play it safe call up dell and tell them you want these sent back at their expense.

Thanks for the info, sounds good. I'm glad I don't have to return the ram. However, how do these different ram speeds work with a Pentium 2.8ghz Hyperthread? Any issues here?
