I saw this at Newegg. I was wondering if Diamond is a good brand nowadays..I know they used to be around back in the days and I owned a Diamond Monster 3D.
 
I used to have a Diamond Viper V770 ... awesome card!

This just looks like a stock x800xl... not even a pretty sticker on the HSF. Dunno bout that.
 
I'm also curious as to how well the brand Diamond Viper is for X800XL (PCI-E). Thanks in advance.

Same, I had a V770 Ultra! Was an awesome card.. Had to call like 10 stores to find one, when it was released..
 
wow I remember buying their Monster Sound 3D over Aureals A3D Vortex sound card,

I didnt't even know they STILL EXISTED
 
I thought Diamond changed their name to Rio once they left the video card market and focused on mp3 players, making this a different company. Or am I totally wrong?

Well I went ahead and bought the Diamond X800XL from newegg, I'll let you know how it goes.
 
I had a monster 3D II (thought it was called voodoo for some reason) :cool:
I was so young my dad had to buy it :eek: how time flies.

Hehe, a friend of mine had that same card! While I had an 8MB S3 Trio3D/64 (when it was still alive)... :( I was sooo jealous...Every other day I'd go by his house just to play on his PC... :eek:
 
Hmm it says 128bit memory in the title, but in the stats below it does say 256bit, im guessing they didnt make any x800xl's with 128bit mem anyway
 
lol the first 2 video cards I ever bought was diamond cards. Bought a Diamond stealth 8mb card in 98 and a diamond viper v550 like in early 99. Then they were like one of the better vid card companies out...might not have looked fancy but were nice cards.
 
So what's the verdict on Diamond's X800XL cards? It looks like many are/were happy w/ some older cards they bought from Diamond years ago. Are they still a good manufacturer? Or do you think they'd be crappy like Connect3D cards. (By "crappy", I mean as in barely meets the specs but does not have much headroom for OC'ing.)
 
Well that's difficult to say. Each card is unique...it remains a gamble whether you hit an overclocking demon or not. YMMV. Personally, if I was really gunning for a massive overclock, I'd go for a BFG/XFX (nVidia), or in this case since it's an ATI card, Sapphire/BBA. My 0.02¢ :)

I should receive mine in a few days, I'll let you know if it's good or not. It also does have 256-bit memory too at least according to their site.

Yep, it looks like it meets the Radeon X800 XL specs. Too bad it doesn't support the latest PS (shader) that the 6800 GT does, but at least, on average, the X800 XL is cheaper than the 6800 GT. I'm leaning toward the GT, but we'll see.

Actually, the old Diamond Multimedia company had broken up into several smaller companies. Diamond was first sold to S3, which later changed its name to SonicBLUE and sold off its graphics chip division to VIA. Then, when SonicBLUE went bankrupt, the Rio portion of the company was acquired by D&M Holdings (which owns the Japanese brands Denon and Marantz), while the Diamond portion of the old SonicBLUE (Diamond Graphics and Supra Modems) was acquired by Best Data.

By the way, the Diamond cards which use current ATi GPUs do not use that old proprietary Diamond control-panel software any more. That software is kaput. Instead, they rely entirely on the ATi-supplied drivers and control-panel (or Catalyst Control Center) software. And the Diamond cards are just clones of the reference ATi designs, IINM.
