Diamond 5870 framerate dropping issues.

I recently purchased a Diamond 5870 for my PC and in Fallout 3 and Crysis I am getting crazy framerate dropping. In Fallout 3 I can run 60 fps, but then it will randomly do drops to like 35-40 out of nowhere. Crysis runs at about 50 and does drops to aound 25-35.

I'm running this on a Q6600, 4 gigs ram, Windows 7 setup. Could it be my processor speed? The reason I ask is because I was previously running a GTX 285 on a 2009 Mac Pro and it never dropped below 60 in Fallout 3.

I'm just trying to get to the bottom of this, and I figured you guys here could help me. Would be much appreciated!

Do you mean drops as in like during heavy activity or complex areas the fps drops down to those levels, or it works fine and then drops to those levels and stays there?

The mac pro probably had a good bit more cpu power than your Q6600 however you shouldn't be seeing performance like that in Fallout3. What resolution and settings are you running?

You could try overclocking your Q6600, apparently they overclock well.

Is it dropping and staying at the lower fps, or just fluctuating?

I am running Fallout 3 at 1920 x 1200, ultra settings. This is what I ran it at on the Mac Pro and it never dropped below 60 fps.

As far as the spots, it happens indoors, but a lot more when I am outdoors. It doesn't drop and stay, its more when I am moving the mouse around. It will have a heavy drop them go back to normal.

I also tried overclocking the processor to 3ghz but it was still happening.

I've experienced similar issues with my diamond 5870 as well. I have been doing some research on the subject. I'm trying to determine if the problem is driver related or is hardware related. Right now it seems to be a bit of both. I have similar issues in dx11 Unigine Benchmark, Fallout 3, GTA 4, and Borderlands. Sometimes I have stuttering/flickering as well, seems to be consistent when 3d processing is used. I am seriously considering an RMA of the card.
