Hi everyone. Ive been checking the forums out and I thought I had my fair share of computer knowledge but you guys put me to shame.

Anyway, heres my point. I worked at best buy as a geek squad computer tech for a year and Ive decided that I want to start repairing computers as a form of seconday income. I need to know what kind of diagnostic utilities and tools I would need and what you guys recommend. Freeware or anything cheap is awesome but I can deal with a little bit of money if its a mandatory tool or utility you guys think I might need. Thanks in advance.

What's in my tool box right now:
  • various sizes of screwdrivers (BTW, don't buy cheap screwdrivers, especially in the small sizes)
  • wirecutters, needle nose pliers, etc
  • flashlight
  • Thermal coumpound, lens cleaner (for CRT/LCD and cleaning off thermal paste), microfiber cloth
  • Power supply tester
  • Cable tester
  • Crimping tools
  • USB to SATA/IDE adapter
  • USB external drive (320gb)

Plus software of course
  • XP Home/Pro disks
  • SP2/SP3
  • Vista DVD
  • Vista SP1
  • Knoppix
  • UBCD
  • GParted
  • Acronis
  • Various free antivirus/antispywares

Wow thank you. Ive got some of that stuff already. Mostly the tools. Can you tell me where I can get the various XP and Vista discs? I really dont want to have to pay for them but I dont see why it would be a problem seeing as how I dont really need the license keys. Customers with retail PC's already have the license on the back of them. Thanks again. That was really helpful.

Can you actually download the full versions of the various Windows OS's off of technet or is that only for getting the SP discs and whatnot. Im looking through it and I cant find the full OS for the life of me.
