So. It's been over 5 years since my last machine. P4 1.8ghz, 1gb ram and a 9800 ATI card. Finally upgrading to get the most out of Diablo. These are in boxes in my room waiting on a few more parts but this will be the build.

Intel 2600k i7
P8Z68 Pro GEN3 mobo
16gb Corsair Vengeance
Intel 510 series 120gb SSD
Corsair Obsidian 650d case
Seasonic X Series 750 PSU
Cooler Master 212 Evo heatsink cooler
Asus DVD/CD burner

The question is, what video card to go with. I want the absolute best for diablo. I'm aware there are always new cards coming out but want to buy my GPU in the next 2-3 weeks. Not that diablo will by any means push boundaries, but I want to be assured everything can be set to full max settings with all the bells and whistles. Better yet, I'll be using a 55" led 1080p so its not like I will need the card to support ultra high resolutions. Will I need to wait for a new card or is there currently one out that is ideal? Thanks everyone!

Not particularly keen on reinstalling the beta to make sure, but I recall my 6850 playing it perfectly at 1920x1200 at max settings.

Yeah i very much doubt that Blizzard would make a graphic heavy game, as it would alienate too much of their potential costumers.

I was hoping for replies just like these! I'll go with a 6970 then just to be sure. Now, which 6970 as there are several and I have no idea why. GPUs changed sometime in between my last machine and this new one. You use to buy a ati or nvidia brand and that was it. Now I'm lost lol.

Ok physx. A friend of mine mentioned I might want an nvidia card for this reason alone? How much will I be affected if I go with amd over nvidia?

Physx is a gimmick, it won't be used on any Blizzard game as far as i know, and only a few games actually make it look different enough with it on, like Batman AA, and maybe (haven't seen tests of actual ingame action) in the new Batman AC.

Given blizzards record of releasing games which are sub-par graphically, you will be fine with the computer you have now.

My 6950 unlocked to 6970 usually sits at the 110 hardcap in the D3 beta with vsync off, absolutely never falls below 60.

Since you are running at 1920x1080 and 60Hz

if ATI then: HD5870 < HD6950 1GB < HD6950 2GB < HD6970 < HD6990
if nVidia then: GTX 560Ti < GTX 570 < GTX 580 < GTX 590

So in other words, my machine will eat it for breakfast. Awesome. I'm sure it won't be the only game I play but was making sure it would be sufficient for it.

Thanks everyone so much.
