What does everyone know about a D1 stepping 2.4C....the highest OC i cant get out of it is 3.1 258*12

D1 is the main stepping for P4 800MHz FSB chips. 3.1GHz is a little low, however looking at your sig I highly doubt the chip is limiting you.

The first thing I noticed when I looked at your system specs was the Kingston HyperX PC3500. This memory uses Winbond CH5 chips and is probably why you seem to hit a sudden wall at such a low speed.

Winbond CH5 chips are notorious on i865/i875 chipsets for their incompatibility problems. Symptoms are hitting a brick wall anywhere from 250-270MHz FSB where no memory divider (5:4 or even 3:2) allows the board to post. You hitting a sudden stop at 258MHz FSB when your CPU does 255MHz FSB at default voltage seems to suggest this is your issue.

alright...if you think that is whats holding me back then i will look into getting some new RAM in the future...when i decide to upgrade to 1GB...not anytime soon though

The RAM is a problem, but with a 5:4 divider it's not even running at its rated speed. I would get better cooling, then try to track down some BH5 if you can.

Your cpu. but I don't you need that unless you're running into high temps.

i have a D1 that can get to 3.4ghz on stock voltages so its not the stepping

yea my temps are fine, they're right around 30C give or take 1-2 degrees.

i wanna say its my RAM

Sorry to say, that means nothing as far as max overclock. Every chip is unique. 3.1 is a little low. What are your voltages for RAM and CPU?

I'm stumped. Your memory should hit that fine at that voltage, more than easily. Its one of 3 things.

Your cpu is near its limit.
Your memory timings are too tight.
Your cpu needs more voltage.

-my core cpu temp is fine...under 35C consistently
-I will try running my timings a little bit looser
-i will raise my voltage....what is the highest i should go....1.7ish?
