Devil May Cry 4

Is there any limitation for 360 that they could not give 360 users the option to install to the HDD? I have a 120GB sitting mostly empty, I'd gladly fill it up with game installs if it meant better load times.

It's the fact that not all 360's were sold, or are being sold, with included hdd's. So now the developers have to program for the lowest common denominator. A money saving decision that I think is coming back to bite MS in the ass.

There's actually very little to no difference between an installed PS3 version and xbox360 version playing off the disk in terms of load times.

this is untrue. several sites clearly state there is a difference.
ign alone claimed some were 3x as long.

however, each gamer will have to decide how susceptible to, or annoyed they are by the difference in load times.

For other games this has been said to be true, but for DMC4 this is absolutely untrue. PS3 loads extremely quick between missions, and the 360 kicks in its vacuum cleaner DVD drive for 1 minute to get the next level up.

At least thats what ive heard anecdotally

I have the 360 version and that is completely untrue. I'm half way through the game and have not had a load longer then 3 to 4 seconds, most loads are even less.. The load times between the PS3 and 360 are no more than a second..

I can't picture reading off a DVD being anywhere near the speed of reading of a hard drive.

I just got frustrated at a boss fight and kept skipping the video on retry, it's pretty much you get to see Now Loading and then its battle time. same on death and such.

The only complaint where it's slow is when it uploads your stats at the end of each round. As such I wonder WHERE THE HELL DO THESE JAPANESE PLAYERS FIND THE TIME TO ACCUMULATE ALL THESE DAMN DMC4 POINTS???

I beat the game once and I look and they have crazy scores in the millions and I haven't even come close to cracking 100k.

We're talking less than a week's difference in release date, but it took me 11 hrs to beat the game once, and that was me not really doing my best to explore. I missed a lot of stuff, hit only 2 of 12 secret missions and my abilities are far from maxed...

Playing it at my buddies house. Fucking sick game :D On Devil Hunter first time through. Trying to get used to stacking combos and keeping them going without getting hit. its challenging remembering what moves you've used recently to get your style up.

Also, eXceed is pimp. Frigging tapping LTrig after every hit = Uber damage + styler :D

I played through eight missions on the PS3 version and, so far, and I'm enjoying it a lot. The graphics are really nice, and the gameplay, while very much like the previous Devil May Cry's (excluding the abomination called DMC2) in the series, is still very enjoyable. The gunplay seems to have been toned down a bit, though, at least for Nero, which is a bit unfortunate considering I liked using the guns in the previous games.

My uncle purchased the collector's edition. I didn't get a chance to check out the bonus content, but what was listed made it seem worth it. It came with the soundtrack to the game, four episodes of the DMC anime, some behind the scenes videos, a tin case, plus some other stuff.

While Nero may not be as gun crazed, his Devil Bringer really brings a new dynamic to the mix. For Dante, being without it kinda feels limiting, until you start utilizing all his different styles. His Gunslinger does some sick moves.

for instance, if the enemies start crowding up, I do the air launcher to one of them, combo them with royal guard, hopefully killing them, if not let them fall, then switch to gunslinger do his crazy upside down gunshots, do a downward slice into the group, another gunslinger blast in the middle of the crowd, then depending on if the enemies are attacking or not switch to lucifer do a few combos which are decent for hitting a few within a crowd, bu short range, then if an attack is coming switch to rebellion and dash out and combo one enemy then pandora and use the bazooka or go to gilgamesh ...

The shotgun does a good amount of damage and knockback to enemies now without even being powered up. I'm just wishing I could play more missions with Dante.

the game game is an absolute blast :)
I having a shitload of fun with it.
I just barely started as Dante, and still having fun.

As for the load times...a couple of seconds. I dont even have time to grab a drink.

I finally got to play it yesterday. Assassin's Creed was far longer than I planned.
I cruised through the tutorial level and the "demo level." I recall Berial being much tougher in the demo. With this one I barely got hit.
I haven't played a DMC since #2 and that was 5 years ago. I'm picking everything up pretty quickly, though. Thus far I'm playing it like Ninja Gaiden, although the guns seem far more useful than the projectiles in NG are.
I like the way that you can replay levels easily...although the UI might be a little tricky for someone new to the series.
The ability to add and even remove abilities is terrific. If you get a skill and don't like it, all you have to do is remove it. I can imagine that early in the game it might even be strategic to choose certain skills for certain levels.
One thing people haven't mentioned is the presentation. The opening cinematic and the way the game begins gives it an epic feel that's almost like Final Fantasy. It just feels very polished.

Is that on 360 or PS3? I found them to be 5 seconds average on 360... :D

You know what I realized? If you beat a boss with a buster move for Nero, the cinematic that follows goes PERFECTLY with the performed buster...

Also of note, if you beat the game and replay all the cinematics, it's like watching a mini movie... just missing the action and the travel in between... it's well done.

I brought the game home from Blockbuster Friday and did something very stupid. After the first stage (in the church), I saved the game. When I went through the second and third chapter, I could have swore that I saw an auto-save occuring between levels. So I didn't save anymore. After I passed the first leg of the first castle level, I decided to play around the options a little and found the ridiculously high scores of the Japanese players. By accident, I exited out of there and back to the main menu. Upon trying to get back into the game, I found that I had just wasted an hour and a half of my Friday night. I was so pissed, I didn't touch the game again for the entire weekend; played Rock Band instead.

Lesson learned: always save between levels

That being said, anyone know if there's an auto-save feature you can turn on? (360 version)

I am a HUGE DMC fan so I was expecting a lot out of this game.

I bought this game yesterday and my friend brought over his PS3 and we hooked it up to my 47" Westy via HDMI.

FUCKIN' SWEET! Graphics kick ass and the combat is super tight. Those are my only comments so far. :D Maybe I will actually have to buy a PS3 to finish it.

Yeah... same with the PS3 version. It makes you think it's autosaving, but what it's really doing is accessing the network for achievements and rankings and saving that instead. It's very misleading.

And no, as far as I know there is no feature like that in either game. It kind of makes sense not to have it on by default because of the consumable system (e.g. you don't want the game to autosave on you if you wasted all your consumables needlessly, and some levels the end kind of jumps out at you; some don't end with a spetacular boss fight or fancy exit).

It's nearly the same for the 360 you know. Also it's going to be on the PC in June for significantly cheaper... $40 MSRP on release. I don't like non-FPS/RTS games on my PC though.

Wow. Son of Sparda mode = Amazing.

MAXAct + eXceed 3 = SS combos like MAD. My timing is getting so much better. I played through the demo level without getting hit once, but ran out of time on berial :D Love this game. Looks SOOOO Good at 720p heheh

The auto-save doesn't really do anything except handle achievements and show your friends what you're doing. I've wasted everything I have trying to complete that stupid secret mission #9. I just tell it not to use my yellow orb when I die and then just exit the game. When I start the game back up, I still have everything.
I'm having a good time thus far. I'm on mission #14, but I'm playing on "human" mode just because I'm out of practice with the series. It's almost too easy to be honest, but for me it's like a trial run to get used to everything.
It's one of those games I'll end up playing through 3-4 times, so it's no big deal.
Still, human mode's really only hard when it comes to the secret missions. I don't think I've been taken down to less than 1/3 of my life to date when I was playing through a normal level.

I rented it from my store, played a few missions, and I generally like it...But I've been playing Burnout Paradise at the moment. Once I beat that I'll probably give DMC4 more attention.

I haven't even bothered to touch human mode, Son of Sparda mode is throwing me for some loops. I've taken a break at mission 6 because of that DAMN CURSED FAFWESRFQWEFWEAFDWEQR#@$R#@$#@RWEFSADFD board game. It's one thing to encounter badguys or be followed by lasers... it's another to be tossed into consecutive BOSS FIGHTS. Also because is SoS mode, they are relentless. Then toss in the lightning bitch as a random enemy and I'm like screw you I don't feel like playing. Did I mention that to screw with your head, just as you are about to reach that final spot on the map and you've been drained from fighting bosses and lightning bitch, that they will make sure to toss in a consecutive set of them..? I can only picture Dante Must Die mode and the board game.

As far as secret missions go, 2 of them are pissing the hell out of me. First is the royal block mission. I got to 4 once then subsequently missed a block and got so frustrated just getting to that point that I've given up on it for now. Next is the unbreakable misssion. I get it. I just find it frustrating. I can wail on the enemies like there's no tomorrow but somehow just as your going in to finish the last one SOMETHING will give you that damage...

Then again DMC3's secret missions are some of the most frustrating I've ever faced...

I have DMC3 on PS2 and the special edition on PC, and after playing it for 5 minutes I would never buy 4 for PC. I would also never buy a 360. Does nothing for me. Every game on the system ends up on PC. Besides, I already bought DMC4 for PS3, and I like the control pad more.

Yeah, about 20% show up on the PC either late or as a half-assed port. The whole idea of having a PC to replace any of the current consoles is either short-sighted or just plain wrong.

You think the board game was bad? Try the god damn Gauntlet. >_< You'll get Epically good at MAXActing and comboing everything, then the fucking blitz... Blitz's aren't too bad for me after that one...

I got lucky on the board game and only died on it once... Had to fight one blitz, one boss on SoS >_< Stepping up the difficulty is going to be fun as hell.

I am not looking forward to the gauntlet on DMD mode or SoS. Teh first time through was agony, having to face multiple Blitzes + Random Boss encounters + Normal Boss Encounters pretty much will be torture.

Also a new pain in the ass I've found. The damn Lizard Chimera. Not only do they like tossing 3 in a row at you + reinforcements, you can't get off a 4 hit without having to dodge an attack first. If you rely on the buster, you open yourself up to attacks, so you have no choice but to MaxAct and combo but constantly switch opponents because on knockdown they do that damn sword swing.

In order of pain in the ass

Blitz - or lightning bitch
The damn toad boss (thanks to the board game I've fought it enough times to hate it)
Lizard Chimera
Scarecrow Chimera

everyone else.

I wonder what happens in DMD mode... they get extra shielding + no knockbacks or stun until shielding gone + insert 2-3 blitzes per regular enemy encounter (which doesn't really make sense since the blitz really doesn't appear until Dante's area)... Oh and that each hit takes 2-3 bars (which SoS already does)...

Also of note, Nero is WEAK. Dante's arsenal of knockback/stun moves more than make up for the Devil Bringer.

The Unbreakable secret mission: run around and use the guns, it takes a while but it's real easy

This game might not be too bad on the PC, since the Framework engine is apparently a PC engine. So it's not really a port. Still, I can't imagine playing this game with anything but a Dualshock/Sixaxis.

Really? Granted I'm not that great at this game, but that mission's killing me. I thought I finished it once only to find that there's a second set of enemies to kill :p

I've tried every trick in the book (like killing the chimera's first) but for some reason those damned lizards somehow hit me once. Which gun are you using and what are you doing? I find myself using the shotgun and double-jumping like a madman. Using the sword or even the devil transformation doesn't seem to help once the enemies are infected. They have that whole wake-up attack thing that seems to snuff any combos pretty quickly.

Ever play DMC3 on the PC? It was possibly the worst PC game I've played in the last 5 years. I don't have much hope for this one either...no matter what they say. I remember Lost Planet and Resident Evil 4, too. Besides, once this comes out on the PC (no date is known) it'll likely be a sale item for the PS3/360.

RE4 would have been decent if they went with the controls like the wii, but with the mouse.

What was so bad about dmc3 on the PC? I recall installing it. Thinking the graphics were crap. And promptly uninstalling it.

Oh, and, I had never played a DMC game before that one.

They mapped the controls using a strange 3rd party application that would turn off and on. Meaning you'd be in the middle of battle and everything would revert to the default settings...and then back again. The default settings were polar opposite of the console versions, too. It didn't support the MS standard joypad types, so only about 1/2 the pads on the market work for it. It was a part of the Japanese version, so the text randomly changed to kanji here and there. Some sections were only in Japanese. Vsnyc was entirely disabled. The menus used a strange set of keys that couldn't be remapped.
There are more issues, but those were just the ones that I thought of. I got it in the bargain bin and it was still a rip-off. I played 3 levels and got sick of my controls reformatting every 20 seconds.

The gauntlet is the massive elevator stages. *shudders*

Also, Nero is amazingly good at comboing. Better than Dante, but he seems to deal a bit less damage, and his DT sucks compared to Dante's :p

The whole idea of having a PC to replace any of the current consoles is either short-sighted or just plain wrong.

I would never imply that. My point was that the PS3 is more attractive to me than the 360, because the bulk of games that are on 360 but not PS3 are also on PC. (Gears of War, Bioshock, formerly Oblivion). The only 360-exclusive dev I'd be interested in is Mistwalker.

I'd still give props to Dante's combo skills. The ability to switch from trickster to DS to sword master to gunslinger gives me an almost endless array of combos that happen to look amazing. Just running through bloody palace, I can S rank a lot of rounds much more than Nero. Heck I can SSS most of the time with Dante I've maxed out the combo meter with Dante many more times than with Nero. I feel crippled with Nero at times. Unless you use exceed, the combos are standard fare, exceed adds a nice twist to the moves, but because of the timing of the insta rev, makes it unreliable... especially against the blitz.

I'll TTT this thread just because I still want to know a good way to clear Secret Mission 9.
The best thing I've been able to do is kill all of the Chimera's first and then shotgun/swordmaster combo the remaining lizards. The problems arise when then 2nd set of pre-infected lizards show up. Sometimes I'll do a devil transformation here and streak 1-2 times to do some decent damage...but then I can't seem to get away from the lizards. Any more ground based stuff with the Devil seems to get me randomly hit with attacks I can never actually see. I've tried running, double jumping, etc. and I still almost always end up landing on one or getting hit by some kind of stray attack. Since you're only getting hit once per try, I've probably attempted this like 100 times.
Any help would be appreciated. What weapons are good and is there a style that helps? If it involves Royal Guard...I'm screwed. Are there any tricks? I can get to the 2nd batch of enemies pretty easily, so that's really where I need help.

I finally passed that and the royal block secret mission in one night, took a few tries for the unbreakable, but here's how I pulled it off.

Good to have full devil trigger and full Pandora destruction meter.

When you go in, first target you can usually get is the chimera seed. Stinger a few times to kill. Stinger the lizards, but release your target, your goal is simply to knock at least 2 down to get them out of your way and make targeting the OTHER 2 chimera seeds easier.

Find the other chimera seed and stinger it to death quickly. Search out the other one, the lizards will be jumping around at this point so make sure you are careful when targeting. Take out the last chimera seed then go and knock down the other lizards. Use sword master to do some massive damage if you manage the knockdown, always be prepared to cancel the combo into an evasion or a jump. Once you've taken them down about half their life, DT and just stinger the crap out of all 3 of them. Speed kills over style, you want DT for the last 3 chimera hybrid lizards.

Once the last one is dead, the other 3 will come in. This is VERY tricky but will save you if you pull it off. Have pandora ready, switch to trickster, and DT. Head to the middle, jump, air hike, then air hike again. Switch to gun slinger after the second air hike and activate pandora. Do not hold R1 or auto lock for this. Let the missiles fly! Rotate your self and move a little bit around to make sure that all the missiles are not stuck on one target but rather hitting all 3. You will not kill them all before the destruction gauge runs out. That's ok. Simply jump up and air hike in the middle and do the same thing again. Feel free to stinger 1 or 2 of them down before jumping up. Just make sure the blades aren't glowing and they are flaying the swords. If you are lucky, you will have killed 1 of them in the first barrage or brought one close to death, stinger that one if that's the case, you need 1 at least dead because pandora will only fire off 2 missiles, sometimes 3, but not enough to cover that 3rd chimera which half the time will find a way to hit you. Just use pandora with air hike and fire missiles in the air and it'll be over soon. Best part is because you didn't get hit, you bring up your stylish meter a good chunk here. I manage to rack up at min 2500pts from this.

For the royal block mission, after falling a few times against the memphistos on that damn bridge puzzle I managed to figure out the timing of all their attacks. Switch to Dante and redid that secret mission and got 5 royal blocks in my 2nd try. I'm finding RG very useful against the blitz so I've been getting timing practice with that. Makes Nero feel even weaker because Dante open's up a lot of different ways of dealing with enemies.

I actually mashed to get the RB one :) You can just get in front of the enemy and wail on circle like there's no tomorrow to get it to work.
I'll have to try the Pandora trick on Unbreakable, though. I've gotten so close to killing them all that I nearly threw my controller at the TV.

I figured out the secret to royal block mission. First kill one of the memphistos.

Then just wait around on the other. He telegraphs his moves it ain't funny.

He'll twirl around for his slash attack which is easy to get the timing for. The laser attack makes a noise first so you can get that one. the dip and slash attack, just wait for after the first dip when he's up again he'll slash. The spin is something I avoid, but considering how slow it moves to you you might as well block that as well.

I think another frustrating mission was the damn shoot distant objects with pandora.... Dante just doesn't like to shoot straight... I basically kept trying till I pulled one good shot off the stairs then RAN to the other statue and fired point blank range. You don't get enough time to make a single mistake on the shot.
